Why wouldn't a marriage last in comics?

The only superhero marriage I can think of that has actually lasted at all* is Reed Richards and Sue Storm, and even then I think that’s because that happened relatively early in their book’s tenure (that’s the same reason why no one touched Bucky for decades). Time will tell if they split Luke Cage and Jessica Jones.

*not counting when people die and/or come back, since the marriage vows are ‘till death do us part’

The New 52 wiped away everyone’s marriage and/or split up couples, and they retconned pre-Flashpoint Superman into not being pre-Flashpoint so there was a moment in time he stopped being married to Lois.

I was so disappointed in this marriage! I did in fact ship them before this, but not afterwards!
