Ennis deserves at least a little credit for producing the first actual 2020 comic book of 2020. I agree with some of this (scoring points by dunking on a 20-year-old TV series IS a poor substitute for real action or even going to a bar with your trans friend, and your trans friend gets to decide what offends her and what doesn't) and I get the feeling I'm not supposed to agree with all of it. The most interesting idea here is that the intervening years and perhaps some baggage from the Boys days have tainted Hughie's forgiving nature somewhat, and that only works if he seems somewhat in the wrong, though still relatable.
The rest of the issue, though, feels entirely redundant and threatens one of Ennis' better traits as a writer, his ability to actually END things. There's a sort of "Quick, bang something out while the TV show is on" feeling here. Still, everyone including me loves JLA/HITMAN, so I guess we'll see which way this'll go.
"Ennis proves that being woke is bullshit by having the make believe trans woman that he, a straight cis white man made up for his shitty comic books agree with him"
Also a man whose spent his entire life finding exciting new ways to show people fucking, saying naughty words and punch each others spines out while pretending any of this shit has some deeper message or point accusing people who are "Woke" of "Not doing anything that counts" is a case of the pot calling the kettle black I feel
Like, if Ennis wants me to take his opinions on the pros and cons of "Wokeness" seriously maybe he should go do something with his life besides drawing a parody of Stan Lee getting a blowjob
Looks at this guy complaining about other people complaining about media for political reasons as if he hadn't devoted a significant chunk of his career to complaining about the fact that superhero comics exist.
...why do I have the oddest feeling Ennis is writing this due to the twist in the last episode of S1 of "The Boys" Amazon series?
I'm actually conflicted about this: the comic was so depressing and dark that the Amazon series was a breath of fresh air and brilliantly set the supers and the Boys in today's cultural zeitgeist, but at the same time, I want to read more of this comic.
And I'm glad to see Hughie (and presumably Annie) doing well and getting on with both of their lives, but with the fates of the other Boys, I have to wonder how Ennis can continue this.

(Namely go through with Billy's plan of killing everyone with V in their systems, which included a LOT of non-super innocent people.)
Hughie isn't thinking "Maybe I should have let Billy kill millions(?) of people," is he?
