I assume there's going to be some sort of twist (DD gets kidnapped on the way to the station?) because otherwise Matt having a secret ID did not last long.
He's really gunning form Stark's record when it comes to coming in and out of the superhero closet.
It wasn't his idea THIS TIME. IRC the previous time he got his identity back it involved an alien doppelganger and a SHIELD cover-up. That's not counting all the time from late Bendis to early Waid where everyone knew but no one could prove it.
Plus I'm having trouble thinking of a hero worse at keeping a secret ID. The first time his double life came up against any scrutiny we ended up with Mike Murdock.
I mean he seems to be a manic*-depressive** and the right meds might help but I know its hard to seek help even when you aren't worried your doctor will probably be a super villain.
*Lee, Kesel, and Waid **Most writers after and including Miller.
But, yeah, the whole "you don't mess with crazy" saying is probably a big part of why Matt is still alive. Aside from Fisk (who thinks he's untouchable) and Bulleye (who is a nutjob), I can't think of a lot of villains that want to make it personal. That Bendis scene where Stilt-Man gave up on the spot is really underrated.
The irony being that he should have the easiest time keeping his ID secret. Who's going to think a blind man is also a costumed crimefighter?
That is a running bit when someone figures it out, they jump to the conclusion Matt is faking the blindness to throw them off as a bit more logical than him having super-senses.
I always liked that bit but ... it always seemed nuts that so many of DD's masks (even the hastily thrown together ones where he wears bandages on his face) cover his eyes instead of borrowing some reflective lenses from Spider-Man or something. I read a recent comic where Elektra (who forgot the was DD) asks him how he can see anything with it on. How could DD be anyone BUT a blind guy?
