From JLU #5.

So we have a very bored Blue Beetle on watchtower duty on a very slow night. Cue time lapse montage!

Apparently pantry pilfery is also present in the Watchtower. Wonder what's in the Bat-jar...

I wouldn't wanna know what he did to the other costumes...Or do I???

He calls Batman, but is busy. So he calls the others...

It's The General!

Aaaand that's all folks! :D

2)And they didn't show him in wonder woman's costume why?
3)aww, that little wave!

Awww. Show of hands. Who just fell in love with DCAU's Blue Beetle? I did.

Yup. Wasn't hard, though.

It's really SUCH a shame the rights issues didn't allow him to be in JLU proper. At least we got to see Ted on B&tB!

I'd raise my hand but that would imply I hadn't already done so when this first came out waaaaaay back.

Very funny, though I'm finding it hard to believe Adam Beechan wrote anything this entertaining.

I think Adam Beechan's work is reflective of the universe he's writing. Put him in the DCUA, he gives you a bright, happy story. (JLU #11 contains the best Stargirl story ever written.) Drop him within the crappy confines of the mainstream DCU and he writes crap. Maybe his fault maybe not, but I have to imagine it's a trick writing anything positive within the DCU these days.

"Maybe his fault maybe not, but I have to imagine it's a trick writing anything positive within the DCU these days."

Bingo. I think you've hit the nail on the head. None of Beechan's DCU-proper work has made me think much of him (not only did he massacre Batgirl but he was also one of the "team" behind Countdown). But it just may be that some people can't write the dark, dreary stuff Didio & Co. seem to want and make it read convincing. I don't think I could do it that well myself.

Maybe I should check out the Stargirl issue you mentioned.

So much love for DCAU Ted. :D Thanks for posting.

So...much...love...

Now I DEMAND to see his Medieval Appreciation Ode. Which he probably wrote on a previous monitor duty shift.

Also, yes! More fodder for my growing collection of food-related icons!

I can't believe that DC does't make more of an effort to sell the DCAU books. It's really great stuff, by many comic shops just stick them in the children's section to be over looked...

From: [identity profile] thokstar.insanejournal.com
From what I can tell, the direct market isn't the main market for the DCAU/Johnny DC titles. If you are selling a comic to young children, you want to get it in grocery stores and libraries and set up subscriptions, not sell it in dark and dingy comic book shops.

(DC may still not be promoting these books well enough, but complaining about how they sell in comic book shops seems to miss the point.)

I'd have to dig out my copy and double-check, but I'm pretty sure there's only one page left to post. Yeah, this is six out off twenty pages, so there's only 2/3 of a page left.

Yeah, a few months ago I was digging through JLU back-issues, trying to find the Question-centric ones. Instead, I found this one, bought this one, loved this one.

Did you get #36? That's probably the best Question story ever.

What's the story about? :D

kingrockwell: he's a sexy (Vic Sage)
From: [personal profile] kingrockwell
Durlan invasion. Vic is sent on a wild goose chase that runs him across various urban legends, including the Chupacabra, Loch Ness Monster and the Mothman. When he gets to the end, the League admits they came up with the scheme to keep him out of the way while they dealt with the invasion.

He knows, of course, and zaps Superman with a taser, revealing him and the others to be Durlans. Then the real League (whom the Durlans had put on a ship headed to the sun, but Vic saved them off-panel) burst through and the day is saved.

Also notable for being the only JLU thing I know of where anyone actually called him Vic.

I tried posting it, but it's simply too awesome to cut down to 7 pages. It's about conspiracies and brilliance and the JLA and AWESOME THAT'S WHAT IT'S ABOUT.

kingrockwell: he's a sexy (Snarky Vic)

I'd argue that being JLU Vic is a very different Vic, but it is a good story. Never found it or #8, and, come to think of it, forgot them completely when I ordered my last Vic fill-pack from MileHigh, same with the Showcase '95 story (which is now the only Denny story i don't have). Obvious with hindsight.

Yeah. I laughed pretty hard at the whole thing. Especially "CANDYGRAM!"

Why in God's name do all the heroes keep their uniforms in one closet?

Date: 2009-09-11 06:50 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] psychop_rex.insanejournal.com
It's probably just their spare outfits in case of emergencies. You know, there's an alien invasion or something, Vigilante's cowboy hat gets blown to bits, he can't very well show his face in public without his trademark Stetson, so he picks up a spare from the costume closet.

I love that last page. Ted's all like 'Uh... hi? Oh damn, I'm screwed.'
(Also, given the coloring, I'm guessing what's in the Bat-jar is either mustard or honey.)

Hmm, I thought the JLU Watchtower had a staff?

Not that I mind; this was a great story anyway.
