Look, someone has to be the idiot who mouths off in front of Fisk. That's normally the Owl's job but obviously he isn't around.
I'll bet the Owl really regrets not leaving for Mutant Orgy Island. Then again, it wouldn't shock me if they "forgot" to invite guys like him and Mandrel.
About the Mandrill I don't know. He is a lot less creepy in a population of mutants where everyone knows about his power and that it is (I think) uncontrollable. I expect Krakoa has some standards about unswitchable powers too. And there is plenty of telepaths around.
Thing is though, he would be in an environment where, it seems Xavier has increased the release of "bonding hormone" in everyone. So everyone around him is mildly inebriated and slightly roofied.
Which makes it creepy again. I feel that for once it is not Mandrill thats creepy though. Its the whole environment.
Well, Krakoa is basically providing them with a constant stream of clones to buffet one. (Another reason for the whole "Clones don't count" ideology. Still, how much respect for life do you have after feeding on people since they Hyborean age?
Anyway, for Mandrill I mean that his power is less creepy in an environment where everyone knows that that is the card mutation delt him. Informed consent has entered the building.
I hate that so much. Putting aside that a good chunk of the Summers family are clones, some of the Quite Council are either currently clones (notably Sinister) or had their lives prolonged by cloning (the Professor). Plus there's whatever was going on with Magneto and Joseph (was he meant to be a backup body? a replacement?).
There's certainly room to M'Baku the Mandrill. He's a victim of child abuse and abandonment with a disturbing appearance and an uncontrollable power that makes it impossible to relate to half of humanity on a normal level. It doesn't excuse being a serial rapist, but it's unsurprising he didn't end up well-adjusted.
You'd have to retcon a lot to make him viable, though, such as dumping the detail about him looking Black before he turned into a literal ape women find sexually appealing.
Would he work in Krakoa? I doubt it. He needs massive amounts of therapy, and the Krakoan approach to mental health issues is to put you on a death squad working for an insane Victorian fop.
Yes, like I've said here before, him and Nekra could have been functional as long as they stuck with the "He is a white mutant who was born looking black so his family rejected him, she is a black mutant who was born looking white so her family rejected her." A good writer could have made something of that.
But then they started with the "He must look like an ape and have rape powers" thing and just no. How could they think that was ok even in the 70s?
But it we run with the character we got, I just feel he is less dysfunctional on Krakoa. He is in an extremely hedonistic society where everyone knows about his power and with cultural norms for making allowances for uncontrollable powers. This is almost certainly the most acceptance he has ever gotten in his life.
When Krakoa eventually comes crashing down, I would not be surprised to see villains like him among the people who mourn it the most. Along with Selene, Proteus etc.
That one-shot is the reason I just can't buy the modern take of Spider-Man and Wolverine as friends.
Spider-Man sees Wolverine as a living reminder of one of his biggest regrets. Wolverine OTOH is totally cool with Charlie wanting to commit "suicide by superhero". These are not people who hang out together.
I am reminded of the time in marvel fanfare pete asked kazar to kill him before he fully turned into man-spider in a moment of desperation begging him.
I would think he'd be able to understand vs her getting captured for life and tortured.
Oh, I think he understands the idea of a mercy killing but that's very different from being willing to pull the trigger.
It reminds me of the time Robot Master tried to get Spider-Man to kill him and Peter ended up saving him as a computer program.
Peter is going to do whatever he can to prolong a life regardless of the person's desires or their quality of life. It's actually one of the few areas where I think Peter is more selfish than heroic.
Yep... though technically she just told him about the time her very sick uncle - who did NOT own a gun - "shot himself". It was less "I would want you to pull the plug" and more "this is a very hard decision" followed by lots of crying. Then Peter decides to keep the bad guy on digital life support until he can figure something else out.
...which is probably for the best as far as May goes. Peter would have looked like a real dick if she had been explicitly in favor of mercy killing only for him to make a literal deal with the devil to prolong her life years later.
Yeah, Fisk forgetting to mention the hero who is borderline cuckoo for cocoa puffs on a good day, and has a hard on for anyone calling themselves the Kingpin, probably doesn't reflect on him too well as an employer.

I think I'm less bothered by them than mutants like Selene and M-Plate who, y'know, eat people.

Holy shit that is a hell of a callback. I remember reading that mini as a kid.
