Just out of curiosity, knowing the page limits for new issues, why would you blow the quota on a preview when there might be more interesting pages when the issue actually comes out?
Oh and good grief, Bendis, lay off the first page recaps. I like reading epics, but wall o' dialogue is ridiculous.
People haven't really been posting from this series. I've been posting the most, so I thought I wasn't stepping on any toes. If push comes to shove, I'll probably delete some pages.
I think many of us are just hoping that Bendis will move on from this series soon and DC will turn it over to someone capable of doing the Legion properly.
I mean, in a year's worth of story, I honestly can't tell you what stood out from all the noise and confusion. :(
"Krypton wasn't destroyed due to it's complacent arrogance in not listening to it's most brilliant scientist warning against internal dangers, it was actually destroyed by a generic alien warlord like a couple of dozen others? What a brilliantly innovative and entirely necessary retcon!"
Said nobody... ever
Sorry Mr Bendis, I think you might be the only person in the multiverse who thinks Rogol Zaar was a good idea.
Rogol Zaar is the sort of character an edgy 8-year-old would create after binge-watching Dragonball Z.
"This is my awesome bad guy, Roger Scar! Roger Scar hates superguys so he blew up their planet cuz he's so strong he can explode planets! Now he wants to kill other superguys with his big cool axe. All the other aliens are so scared of Roger that they talk about how scary and cool he is. A teacher told me characters need to have mo-ti-va-tion, which is a thing they want. Roger Scar's thing he wants is to kill superguys!"
Well, that's horrifying. It's a difficult idea to pull off well, since it takes away agency from every character but Irma. Are any of the decisions, say, Jon has made really his? Did he actually choose to go to the 31st century? Did he choose to make out with Saturn Girl? Fortunately, a delicate writer could really examine how traumatic this would be for everyone involved...
"Some people like being mindraped. Violating people is our culture and we think it's good."
If you think about how he handled teen Jean Grey in ANXM, he had her indiscriminately read minds and mind control Angel. This could be that same approach only amplified.
"We... convince. To us, it's normal' is somewhat thought-provoking. Like, where is the line exactly between making your case and emotional manipulation, and how far would you go if you thought your good idea was really important? And how do the rules change when you go from a society of peers to a society of people with "persuasive abilities" lower than yours?
That part, I found really sympathetic. There could easily have been a whole issue about Imra wrestling with the implications of that, but who'd want to see that instead of Jon physically wrestling Rogol Zaar? Oh, everyone? Oh. Huh.
