.... I think this gag of nobody noticing amazing stuff while their back are turned is kinda played out... not to mention the "folding space" does look like it DOES make some noise if not give off light to people to notice.

Not pictured: the scene in which SWORD is apparently perfectly willing to sell mutants to the Snark in exchange for help against Knull.

Not pictured: those mutants being perennial Z-listers Burner and Lifter, former colleagues of Peeper in Magneto's Mutant Force / the Resistants, apparently desperate for relevancy. :)

Agreed! I'd rather see obscure characters used for the first time in years, than see Wolverine and Cyclops in their 15th appearance of the month. The Krakoa era has been great for bringing back long-forgotten (lost, dead, depowered...) characters, and SWORD is no exception.

Mutant Force is fun because they're such basic losers for the most part. Look at their original names: Burner, Lifter, Shocker, Peeper, Slither... no one gave a single flying fuck about creativity on that end. Magneto was probably "Eh, fuck these guys" as he gathered them from wherever they'd been overlooked by everyone else. "Snake guy... he's Slither now."

That reminds me, I kinda miss the days when Xavier and Emma and whoever would literally fight over emerging mutants like they were Pokemon. It didn't matter how awful you were, they'd pop up and try to recruit you for their side... but then we got into the era where all these unknown mutants were just lying about for anyone to grab. So where DID these clowns come from?

To be fair, those two mutants were volunteers. And they weren't "selling" the mutants, they were selling the mutant powers. Which, as Eden said, just goes to show how desperate they are.

They weren't selling mutants, the mutants were offering to sell their powers

And both of said mutants volunteered to do so

I know, but the way it was depicted amused me, since they were perfectly okay with the process possibly causing their deaths. I can't remember if both Burner and Lifter were depowered on M-Day or just one of them--maybe this was their way of getting killed so they could get their powers back.

Plus, selling mutant powers to the Snark is such a bad idea in general.

Desperate times...they are trying to stop the end of all life on earth here while fighting a god of evil from before the dawn of time after all

And I think the reason they were okay with it is that they knew Krakoa could just bring them back with the powers they'd sold restored

And just the bit where it's Burner and Lifter. I mean who said "You know what? These guys right here. These random schmucks are perfect for the job." I bet Peeper and Mentallo put them up to it. :)

OK, I love that Gyrich performed an orchiectomy on the text of the Orchis Protocol. And yes, he knows what an orchiectomy is. He looked it up as a lad and was horrified, and forever after it's been among his top 27 greatest fears (to date).

On another note, if you can mess with space, you can mess with space-time, and gravity is just a side-effect of folded space-time. Welcome to godhood, Eden!

Honestly, Orchis recruiting Gyrich seems like a net win for Krakoa. Maybe they can trick Orchis into hiring Maria Hill as well.

Go for the trifecta - Gyrich, Hill and Val Cooper.
Orchis will be a burning, crumpled mess before the day is out.

I feel like they all occupy different spots on the "malicious / incompetent" venn diagram.

Actually Gyrich is so inconsistent he probably has a third circle that includes the other two.

I am literally amazed Gyrich even has a career after the last time he was involved with SHIELD.

Which, if you forgot, he set up Abigail by deliberately ignoring an alien armada attacking Earth so he could take over SWORD out from under her and then instigate a plan to capture and deport every alien currently living on Earth. Up to and including heavy hitters like Beta Ray Bill.

It went about as well as you'd expect.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we're going to get to see SWORD utterly trash and humiliate whatever pack of morons Gyrich has working for him over at Alpha Flight.

Personally I'm hoping Magneto hits Gyrich's base with a meteor ...with Gyrich and his staff still on it

It doesn't seem that surprising, Gyrich is exactly the type of person the government would favor. They also have him in charge of Hulk operations.

Henry Peter Gyrich, demonstrating once again that it was a mistake for Krakoa to make it a law not to kill humans

There are a lot of humans in the Marvel universe who need to be killed. And Gyrich is near the top of that list

So did Gyrich hire Hickman as his chart guy?

I feel like the best way to handle the mole reveal is for it NOT to be Cortez, Vanisher, or Mentallo because every single one of them has "obvious traitor" tattooed on their forehead.

Wild guess; it's Kid Cable doing it for time travel reasons.

Either that or a reverse mole situation, where they get the least trustworthy person they can find to pretend to be a mole, figuring Gyrich is such a jackass he'll never suspect he's being played.

You mean someone who is constantly mentioning the bad blood between the mutant race and his Emperor's consort's mother?

Assuming the Power Skrull is the spy, you'd think he'd be using some else's identity to report any findings. There's no reason for a shapeshifter to use their own face for spycraft. Maybe Gyrich THINKS it's Manifold or something; would explain why he's pretending not to notice the office visit above.
