"The challenge to writing a character like Captain America, or, for that matter, Superman, is building tension and conflict within an ostensibly perfect individual. Most human beings, even the best among us, are simply not built that way. Even the best of us try and fail. But there is nobility in our trying, so our best leaders will always inspire us to try, regardless of the circumstances.

"The kind of hope Cap or Supes offers us is palatable but more easily consumed by younger people who have experienced less of the disappointment and rejection most of us encounter as we grow up. John Walker offers hope to the real world of our adult struggle." -- Christopher Priest

I can't believe this whole story was leading up to Priest revisiting Black Dragon.

Looks like the one Steve Rogers used when he was "The Captain", did Walker get that one when he became USAgent?

I remember a Comics Should Be Good article about this not too long ago. I THINK that Walker got the USAgent outfit and shield that belonged to Steve as the Captain, but Walker decided to quit as USAgent maybe around the end of West Coast Avengers and chucked it all into the ocean and it hasn't been seen since. John's used a whole variety of other shields since.
(Article here: https://www.cbr.com/captain-america-shield-new-york-bay-usagent/)

So the Captain's vibranium shield either blew up during the "exploding vibranium" storyline, or is still at the bottom of the bay, or was rescued offscreen and just hasn't been seen since AWC #102.

Some of what Christopher Priest is saying about USAgent is remarkably similar to how Huntress was treated in the Bat-books up until Flashpoint. Helena keeps trying and trying, but she's not Batman.

Though that was because Batman at the time was kind of an asshole and not because Huntress was a jingoistic moron

Phew, that was a close one! That dragon nearly ate John.
Could've given it a nasty case of food poisoning, the poor mite.
