And there are quite a lot of movie titles and release dates, and a hint of another rather welll known title coming to the big screen, which I am not going to put in the tags.
I do wonder how they’re going to handle Ms. Marvel, given how Carol Danvers isn’t especially well known or renowned in this universe like she is in the comics universe, she’s only really had one movie so making the sequel all about her biggest fan is kind of weird, and links between the TV shows and the movie tends to be a one way street so I doubt she’ll be an Inhuman..
and links between the TV shows and the movie tends to be a one way street so I doubt she’ll be an Inhuman..
I think in this case there's zero chance of Disney acknowledging that complete flop of a show, so Kamala being an Inhuman could be a good reboot/starting point for that concept, minus the need to sandbag the X-Men this time around.
My understanding for the reason that the SHIELD and the movies divurged so much was because of studio politics - and the person that caused the problem is no longer there.
Carol hasn't even acknowledged that her title is Captain Marvel. She's only been referred to as Captain Marvel in Spider-Man: Far From Home and Wanda Vision. Every time it occurs I keep asking myself 'How do they know that? The only thing anyone has ever called her was Carol and Danvers.'
It's a big pet peeve of mine since a lot of MCU stories revolve around characters who's hero titles are a big deal, except the women. The word 'wasp' has yet to be uttered at all in the MCU.
Shang Chi and Thor are the movies I'm most excited for especially as the Thor movie is going to give Valkyrie the girlfriend she deserves to have and finally give us some proper actual LGBT representation on screen in the MCU
Very curious as to what will happen with Black Panther now; I know people responded very positively to Shuri, but so much of what made the film work was Boseman as T'Challa and his embrace of the role outside the film with an understanding of what it meant to people.
And the last bit of the trailer is... Yeah, blindingly obvious; I hope they can get it right this time - it should really be one of the easiest adaptations to pull off and yet the only one to really get it was the one from the 90's that was never intended for release.
I think not recasting T'challa is the right call as it would feel disrespectful so soon after Chadwick Boseman's passing. But I am curious how they will handle the issue of the actor who plays the lead of the franchise no longer being with us as if they do have another character becoming the Black Panther they will need to explain what happened to T'challa
I've made no secret of my being fairly burnt out and unplugged from the Marvel movies post-Civil War, but I can't help looking at these and having some thoughts. The post-Endgame era of the MCU, with so many of their original core stars/characters gone and an increased focus on diversity is gonna be a very different beast. Watching this though I'm mostly struck by how hot and horny Disney is to get people back in theatres and reinvested in the Marvel universe. It makes sense, of course, but it's so funny to see it be so transparent.
Black Widow - Still taken aback that they sat on this movie for so long. Genuinely interested to see if it does anything with the era between Infinity War and Endgame, since the time period is rife with potential for strange and interesting stories but has also been aggressively minimized in subsequent movies. I mean, Spider-Man 2 called the single biggest thing to happen, ever, of all time, "The Blip", because if you actually think about it for half a second it completely destroys any idea that the Marvel Universe could resemble our own thereafter.
Shang Chi - It's funny that with this bringing in a real version of the Mandarin the MCU's long march towards Iron Man 3 (which I maintain is actually a good movie) essentially being considered non-canonical is now complete.
Eternals - Who cares? The most interesting thing about the Eternals is that it's given us Kumail Nanjiani as another schlubby, normal comedian whom Disney has forced to get uncomfortably ripped. I don't want to body shame anyone, and I hope he's happy, but there's really gotta be a reckoning at some point with the fact that the Marvel heroes are as or more ripped than the most mocked excesses of 80's action movies.
Spider-Man: No Way Home - I really don't care for the Disney Spider-Man movies and the incorporation of multiverse stuff continues their trend of 1) ripping off Miles Morales' cast, setting, story beats, etc, and 2) stripping Spider-Man down to pure corporate iconography. We don't know much about the story, but I've always tried to at least credit the Disney Spidey stuff with consciously differentiating itself from previous Spider-Man movies, and depending on how they riff on the multiverse stuff that might not be the case anymore.
Doctor Strange 2 - The original Doctor Strange was the point at which I said "Oh, I don't care enough about these to watch them all anymore" and so the only interesting thing to note about this movie is the question of how heavily it ties into Wandavision and/or Spider-Man 3.
Thor - I have my issues with Ragnarok (it's overly glib, cruises through emotional beats too quickly, and isn't as overtly anti-colonial as people sometimes give it credit for) but this is the only one of these that I can imagine myself maybe seeing in theatres. I just wanna see Beta Ray Bill, man.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - The most interesting movie on the Marvel slate due to what it's going to have to do practically and culturally in the wake of Boseman's untimely death. The subtitle makes me wonder if they're going to push Wakanda at large as a brand over Black Panther, or if they will attempt the unenviable task of replacing Boseman.
The Marvels - Making Captain Marvel's second movie about her relationship with a teen fan continues Marvel's long term astroturfing campaign attempting to convince us that Captain Marvel, be it Carol Danvers or any other version, has ever held any real significance. Could be fun, but I hope it's not as shameless in its propagandizing as the first.
Ant-Man and Wasp/Fantastic Four - It's completely bizarre to have both this and Fantastic Four coming out, when the Ant-Man movies have essentially positioned these characters as an ersatz Fantastic Four family of science adventurers. Dropping the FF into a Marvel Universe that has no real place for them and is built on completely different principles is at once strange and exciting. I don't have particularly high hopes for FF, but Ant-Man and Wasp 3 will probably be as charming as the previous two.
Guardians 3 - Between the tumultuous production and the fact that Endgame left the team in one of the weirdest places, this could be something.
I'm assuming that the reason so little 'during the blip' stuff came up in Falcon & Winter Soldier was that it was originally conceived with the assumption that audiences would have seen Black WIdow first, and the movie may at least give us a feeling for what the world was like.
Eternals will probably be a step up above the rest if only because of Chloé Zhao. Love how they're using Gemma Chan in a lead role after treating her like crap in Captain Marvel.
If the adaptation of Aaron's Thor is anywhere near as loose as their take on Planet Hulk, you've probably gone little to be worried about. Some of the characters will look superficially the same and that's about it.
Well, it's sure got a better shot at being actually interesting and successful than James Cameron Reminds You of That Summer We All Watched "Dances With Smurfs" For Some Reason and Star Wars: A Somewhat Shorter Time Ago In A Galaxy Far, Far Away, After Almost Everyone You Really Cared About Was Dead, The Series' Best Villain Dissolved Into a Pile of Nonsense, and That Hot Throuple Didn't Happen.
On a macro level, I still wonder a lot about how easy it'll be to replicate the meta-story of Phases 1-3, replace the well-loved actors who've left (and the ones clearly on the way out), and perpetuate the overall excitement of the franchise, but I guess those of us open to finding out will all find out together.
The Marvels: Wow Carol's own symbol isn't even on the logo, I'm sure that Kamla's interactions with Captain Marvel will be just as half-assed and disingenuous as they were in the Ms. Marvel comics I mean it was obvious that G.Willow Wilson didn't want to be writing those scenes in the books. Also so sick of Kamala being rammed down my throat.
Black Widow: Not a huge fan of Scarlett Johhansen as an actress or especially as a person after her little "I can play any man woman or tree I want" bullshit but it'll be cool to see Yelena and Taskmaster. I find it hillarious that Marvel is trying to No Homo Yelena and Natasha's interactions by making her Natasha's sister. Oh Marvel...if you think that will stop the shippers you haven't spend that much time on the internet...
Shang Chi: Thrilled for this one! The fight scenes look great, it's got such a great cast and is bringing some much needed extra diversity/representation to the MCU and it's going to be cool to see a proper version of the Mandarin and to see how the movie goes about adapting out the more problematic aspects and making him a better character
Eternals: Very excited for this because I've been enjoying the Eternals comic and I think it has a fun concept and lots of potential. Plus Angelina Jolie and Gemma Chan both starring in this film? Be still my horny pansexual heart
No Way Home: Going to be honest, I've not been a huge fan of the MCU spidey films. I like their version of MJ who has good Weird Girl energy and I think the actor playing Peter is a fine actor but the scripts have not been that strong in my opinion. Still I plan to see this and I am curious about seeing Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina reprising their roles as Electro and Doc Ock and if this is going to be a case of them crossing over into the MCU Into the Spider-Verse style
Doctor Strange 2: I will be watching this one for Wanda hopefully rescuing her twins and also us getting live action America Chavez
Thor Love and Thunder: The movie I'm most excited for! Taika Waititi doing another Thor movie is an automatic yes from me and the fact we're finally going to be seeing some proper represenation of queer couples in the MCU with Valkyrie getting a girlfriend is something that I am more excited for than everything else put together. Give me my superhero ladies kissing ladies MCU
Wakanda Forever: Very curious what this movie will be like, if they'll have a new Black Panther and how they'll handle the absence of T'challa with Chadwick Boseman no longer with us. I loved the first Black Panther movie and I am excited to see more of these characters and this mythology but I will also be very sad that Chadwick is not there
The Marvels: I actually really loved Captain Marvel when it came out and I think the actress playing Monica is awesome so I'm looking forward to seeing her and Carol teaming up for an adventure. And it is cool that Kamala isn't just going to be in the Disney Plus show but will be appearing in the big screen MCU as well
Ant Man and the Wasp Quantumania: The Ant Man films have been very very fun and enjoyable so far and so I'm pretty hyped for this one.
Fantastic Four: I have doubts I'll go to see this. Don't get me wrong I love The Thing he is delightful but Johnny Storm I can take or leave and I absolutely despise both Reed Richards and Sue Storm so I don't know this might be one I wait for to come out on DVD or on Disney Plus rather than seeing it in the cinema
