I read manga trying to justify sakoku (or the end of it, depending from the political orientation of the author) who were less stupid than this. And that includes Code Geass Ibunroku where japanese leaders are literally forced by Perry to let westerners in with hypnosis.

I know subtlety has never been Ennis' point and yes, this was written before Trump but the idea VA goes for a man who is quite literally mentally retarded as their puppet President is another reason this company is too stupid to exist even in comic books.
