Robin and Batman #1 Preview

CBR Have a preview up for "Robin and Batman #1 (and yes, that IS the name :) ) , as Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen (of "Lil Gotham" fame) give us a different angle on becoming the first Dynamic Duo in a three part Prestige Format title!



Gonna say upfront, that that is a weird costume hybrid. Classic Dick Grayson tunic and cape from the waist up, original Damian Wayne with the high lace up boots from the waist down? Is he doing a Danny Phantom transformation from one to the other? :)



Clearly Batman is starting his future partner on the smaller end stuff, like.. meat bandits? (Which is NOT a euphimism for something sordid... I hope... though I'm not googling it just in case.)





It's clearly Dick during a pre-Robin training phase with a worried Bruce doing a "helicopter Batman" approach to mentoring.

Not always a fan of Lemire, but Nguyen does terrific Batwork, so it'll definitely be pretty!

It's nice of DC Comics to dig deep into its character stable and give us new comics about Robin and Batman.

I get wanting to give Dick pants (cue disappointed fans) but I agree that that reminds me a little too much of Damian's look. It doesn't help that Damian is the Robin I most associate with Nguyen's art.

To be fair... this is hardly the first time Dick has cribbed another Robin's style to get with the times: Hello BTAS Dick Grayson wearing Tim Drake's Robin costume!

Though I think Dick was the only Robin who'd been used in film or TV at that point so I'm guessing there wasn't much confusion among casual viewers.

(As I mentioned earlier this week, most of the people currently furious about "Gay Robin" don't seem to know there are more than one(

And it still isn't as bad as DCAU Jason stealing Tim's identity and calling himself "Tim Drake" despite clearly being Jason Todd.

(Yes, I'm aware of the new DCAU Red Hood that is even Jasonier)

On the one hand, it's "Another Frigging Bat-Book."

On the other hand, it's the creative team behind the excellent sci-fi series Descender and its equally excellent follow-up, Ascender. That alone makes this tempting.
