"There are only 3 Mutant Laws, & none of them require someone to give up personal choice in that way. There as many way to be a mutant as there are mutants, so I would say that if some books - with different characters - approach it in different ways, that is a good thing." - Vita Ayala
They really could have made that 'no duplicates' thing clearer from the outset, but at least it's settled now! Huzzah!
As to the three laws, their big problem is that 2/3 are pretty vague. 'Respect the land' is broad, but at least the intent is obvious.
'Make more mutants'. So, are you breaking this law if you are not actively engaged in making more mutants? Or is it a crime for a mutant to give birth to a non-mutant? This is less of a law, and more of a manifesto policy, not the same thing.
because they don't want to deal with the question of which of the duplicates has more rights to the life. And if there was a suplicate of a person and both die do you resurrect one or both? Do you attempt to ,merge the two separate minds back into one individual?
I think it was pretty clear that it was never a real rule, it was just that the council didn't want to bring Madelyne back so they said "Sorry can't bring her back because she's a...clone. Yes, that should stick"
I kinda figured it was one part not wanting to deal with Madelyne Pryor, one part realizing that while it would be really useful to just have a few dozen Wolverines and other high level mutants to throw at problems that would raise too many questions about the whole premise of resurrection re: continutation/replication of consciousness.
Orchis having half a dozen cases with adamantium skeletons from the various Wolverines they've killed was hilarious. The council really should just coat Logan's bones in Mysterium and be done with it.
I would not want to be Farouk after that last panel. I'd bet Illyana can do things to people that the Five can't fix, even with the resurrection process.
I don't know, Pete Wisdom came back after being ritually sacrificed to Morgan le Fay, so monkeying around with the soul of the deceased doesn't seem to prevent a new body from getting its mind re-attached.
The standard for basic moral decency over on Krakoa seems to essentially boil down to don’t permakill anyone. Everything else looks to be pretty much fair game.
Kurt has above average morality for Krakoa, though. And honestly, it's kind of a ridiculous statement to make. "Don't make mutants look bad" is such a broad interpretation that it makes you wonder why they added any other laws.
I don't think the intent of the story for Farouk was ever going to be about him getting redeemed. He was clearly up to no good right from the start.
And of course different people hold people to different standards
Mutantkind isn't a hive mind just because they all live in the same country any more than the people of any other country is
I'm sure if Shadow King were to as Mr Sinister or Emplate about what he's doing they'd give it a thumbs up. But the New Mutants are obviously not going to see his actions the same way
"I don't think the intent of the story for Farouk was ever going to be about him getting redeemed. He was clearly up to no good right from the start."
You're missing my point - I was saying that Krakoa was supposed to be the land of second chances, but no one is actually interested in being a better person, they just follow the rules as barely as they can. While I'm probably missing somehow only exceptions I can actually think of are Apocalypse (off the board, retconned-in sob story explaining his actions, and will probably be a villain again) and Gorgon (who's essentially dead now).

So you agree with me that that quote doesn't really work.
I'm glad that we got some resolution on the 'no dupes,' thing as it applies to clones, and also some acknowledgement that single sentence laws with no clear process to appeal or even clarify them can create some uncomfortable situations.
I'm also a little sad because, longshot, I know, I was kind of rooting for non-Shadow King inhabited Farouk to find a way forward.

Also also, so much for Farouk being redeemed. How many X-Villains have actually become better people?
