So, this is the prequel series that already gave Skeletor a tragic backstory. What else has it got up its sleeve? How about doing something horrible to Teela?

The Netflix series did have, as a driving narrative point, Teela coming to terms with being lied to by her closest friends, one of the only members of the central cast not to be in on the big secret. Obviously, that was a problem that needed to be addressed, and I thought it did so well. Did we also need a retcon of multiple mindwipes thrown in as well?

Hey, at least it's not "The thunderkittens being Mum-ra's sex slaves" level of horrible.

Question: As someone who hasn't watched the series, is there some particular reason Teela, and Teela alone, can't know Adam is He-Man that requires everyone to repeatedly mindwipe her?

Or is it because that's what the plot demands?

I don't think that's what they're mindwiping here. She's the daughter of the Sorceress, but they've kept that a secret, too. Looks like she was tapping into some of that power here, but didn't want her to know yet.

Which begs the question: If not now, when? In 200X/Classics, Sorceress is dying by the time she finds out, iirc, and when your mother/teacher is dying is a really lousy time to have them try to get you up to speed.

Between this and the actual show, it's clear that there's a reason they're keeping Teela's lineage and everything else from her. In the first half of the show, they kept trying to come fully clean with her repeatedly, but kept getting interrupted along the way. And Teela's fight with her own fears underlined that she's afraid of her destiny.

They're clearly building to something with her in the back half of the show, I just hope it's worth it because it's not a good look for any of them here.

But mindwipes worked out so well for the Justice League!

It was an ongoing plot line from the 80s show but I feel like the new all ages show has handled it best by just making her transform into the sorceress.

I don't understand how there can be good (maybe not excellent, but still fairly solid) writing for the show itself, and then such bad writing for the comics.

It's the same writers, right? And the showrunner is calling the shots in both cases. So why is one good and the other shitty?

Skeletor really doesn't seem that bad in comparison
