Date: 2009-09-21 06:55 pm (UTC)Not wear a costume but be there to help heroes in the background or as a trainer, allowing his protege and good friend to keep the mantle. Let Steve become a General in the battle against evil. Then again, I find if they continued with how they've been running Bucky/Cap as a bit more of an espionage thing, this could fit really well into the books identity and could really lead to a great beginning to heal the Marvel universe post Civil War/Dark Reign. It would also allow Fallen Son to mean something later down the line, as it was a metaphorical death and subsequent rebirth for Steve, when he discovers the true power he has. Not just as a street brawler but as a political dynamo to help change the face of the world and eradicate injustice.

Date: 2009-09-21 09:37 pm (UTC)Your attempt at creating tension lacks a certain something, like tension. Blame your solid grasp of characterization. We all know that you're not about to commit Battle for the Cowl on us.
Yrs,
Fanbase
(My imagination goes something like this--
Steve: No, I passed the shield to you; it's yours now.
Bucky: No, it was always yours. I was just holding it for you.
Steve: Please, take it.
Bucky: You take it.
*repeat for fifteen or so pages, while the supporting cast gets increasingly bored and starts throwing out ever-more-ridiculous suggestions*
Bucky: Look, just take your fucking shield, okay?! Being Captain America was good, but it's yours. It was always yours.
Steve: Bucky--
Bucky: Besides, you'd pine for the shield. It would be tragic. I can't be responsible for a grown man going into fits of melancholy.
Steve: *I think this is time for manly hugs*
Bucky: *goes off and puts together an identity that doesn't have anyone else's fingerprints on it*
Steve: Avengers Assemble!
Supporting Cast: *cheers*)
