Excellent news!

DC confirm Hero Initiative to have limited print run

JLA/Avengers will be available in March from participating comic book stores and will be distributed via Diamond Comic Distributors. This 288-page full color, softbound volume features the original 2003 four-issue co-publishing venture between DC and Marvel, written by Kurt Busiek with art by George Pérez. The book carries a retail price of $29.99 and is limited to 7000 copies.

This collection also features 64 pages of companion content and will reprint introductions by original Avengers writer/editor Stan Lee and Justice League of America editor Julius Schwartz. A bonus in the Hero Initiative edition is a new afterword by Kurt Busiek.

George Pérez is a founding member of Hero Initiative’s board of directors and has served as chair of its Disbursement Committee.

I still have the big two-book hardback "Ultimate Edition", amazing read with all the extras and such.

In a way, the last gasp of a golden era for both teams as not long after it wraps, we get DC going dark with Identity Crisis then Bendis messing up Avengers with Wanda going mad and such so a love letter to both sides.

Kurt Busiek's run on Avengers was one of those few times I really got invested in the Avengers as a team along with the work of writers like Roger Stern and stuff like Earths Mightiest Heroes

Yeah I do not miss that era where both DC and Marvel decided everything needed to be grittier and "More real" which translated to making everyone assholes and making every villain a cackling mass murderer or a puppy kicking serial rapist

There were good things that came of that time such as some increased diversity and representation but I'm glad that these days we have the good parts of that era like increased diversity in the cast of characters appearing and less of the bad, like everything needing to feel so damn bleak

The Ultimate Edition

I have that too. And I'm soooo glad that I snapped it up the moment I saw it. It's a real prized possession all right.

I don't want to be "that guy" but - between the relatively low price point, extremely low print run, and unclear instructions on how to get ahold of it (when in March? how do I find a "participating comic book store"? What's preventing the larger stores from grabbing the entire print run and hoarding them?) - I feel like this is going to benefit eBay scalpers a lot more than it will George Pérez.

Glad I kept my single issues.

Oh, so they'll be even more rare when Diamond destroys a sizable percentage in shipping. Neat.

The book is getting allocated, but yeah this book is absolutely going to end up on eBay day one at $150 - $200 each. And I hate that because it really deserves to be in the hands of people who will read it instead of flipping it.

It just seems like they could raise so much more money by auctioning the books themselves.

This is such a joyful read

Kurt Busiek is one of those writers who takes so much delight in the superhero universe he's working in. He feels like a genuine fan of the medium with a love for the characters and their histories and this book is one of my favorite of DC and Marvel's crossovers.

And George Perez's art on this book was top notch.

Absolutely

It very much is. There's so much crammed in to every page, that you get the sense that they were absolutely dedicated to having as much fun with it as was humanly possible. No doubt With a real appreciation that it was a once in a lifetime gig.

It's really is a real labour of love, that shines through in each part of every issue.
