"It's a funny thing, but in my career, I have always been attracted most to the characters that I felt, rightly or wrongly, were at a bit of a low point in their characterization or visibility. In short, I like to try to polish up characters a little bit when they hadn't had the spotlight they deserve for a while. With Jessica Jones, that just wasn't the case. She's pretty much always been handled immaculately, first by her creator, Brian Bendis, and then by brilliant writers like Kelly Thompson. So she was never really on my radar in the same way that some of the other characters I love have been. She just was already in the best possible hands.

What appealed to me upon second read was, she's one of the few ongoing characters who has been allowed to evolve in a naturalistic way. Read her first stories up to her more recent ones, and it feels like every event she's experienced has made her better and even more vibrant. That's rare with these characters. They often go from reboot to reboot without a thought. Jessica had a LIFE that she's lived." -- Gail Simone

Well, Maria, unlike you, Jessica has had thorough examinations by psychics as well as training and psy barriers in place. I think she's got a pretty good chance of not needing to worry about any implanted commands. Of course, I get the feeling the writer is going to forget about this.

Or, more generously, Jessica will forget about this because let's face it, the Purple Man and/or threats to her family are both areas in which she's not prone to reacting rationally at first. She's gonna panic first, think later.

I trust Gail Simone as a writer to actually have done her research and understand the character

It's just that "Is Jessica truly free of the shadow of trauma the Purple Man cast over her life" is a well they keep going back to draw from so often that the bucket's got mud in it by now.

"Crisis." Can Marvel characters use the word? At least in that context.

"I'm having a war," while potentially plausible if you get enough variant Jessica's running around punching each other, probably sounds awkward, even if Marvel does have a plethora of war events.

Jessica Wars sounds kind of awkward...

Maybe Variant Saga? Harken back to the fun of the Clone Saga?
