In terms of the Western comics medium, events are something that only we have. When I first saw the first Avengers movie, there was a moment when I realized, “Oh no, they’ve done a crossover. I’ve never seen this before.” And they’ve still haven’t really done an event in the way that we do events. The idea that they’re going to release three movies at once and they’ll tie into a central movie. It’s really bizarre. On an intellectual curiosity level, it’s beyond good and evil. They exist, in which case you want to take it seriously as a form. -- Kieron Gillen

Ikaris' face in the "I have an idea" panel is still hilarious.

Does the "Death to the Eternals" message actually look like ...I don't know how to describe it. Umm, like, double of each letter or are my eyes messed up?

Maybe Ikaris can’t make a Heat vision message as well as Superman can.

Well, that's not fair. Shockers has had millions of years to practicing his wall laser writing.
(All part of his master plan.)

It's sort of like a 3-D effect attempt, except I don't think the issue's in 3-D.

I took it as two eyes = two beams. So the double letters are eye width apart.

Memetaur basically being an immortal, skyscraper-sized teenage girl/death machine actually makes the character so much more interesting. I'm glad the Hex are getting at least some characterization and exploration.

It's honestly pretty sad. Thinking, living beings were locked up for thousands of years because they were living weapons and only an omnicidal maniac had the key.

It's esepcially sad considering the very first thing we, the audience, ever heard her think/say was "Please don't", right before Exodus killed her.

As Druig said, they are not towering death machines, or maybe not just towering death machines. They have minds, personalities, hearts.

The "please don't" didn't make me feel sad at all considering at the time, she was genociding Mutants. I cheered for Exodus being a badass. My only thought was "what a freaking hypocrite, was she holding back for all the Mutants not wanting to be killed?"

If she rebels against her programming and defends Mutants, I'll care. Until then, she's the equivalent of a Sentinel with a personality.

The whole point of this resurrection protocols thing is that mutant deaths mostly hold no dramatic weight any more unless they've opted out. Whereas Memotaur is obeying programming pushed on her, possibly against her will; and "Please don't" refers to the fact that resurrecting her costs a single human life. No backup, no resurrection.

If it made you feel something, that's cool, but I'm just saying it doesn't for me. I can't feel much for a mass murdering character, even if that's their programming, until the character stops mass murdering.

Programming or not, the scene is Syne is saying 'please don't kill me' to the very people she's murdering. Mutants don't know that eternal resurrection kills humans because eternals are hiding that fact. I hope that comes out publicly in the series.

As for resurrection, if Exodus doesn't stop Syne, Mutant resurrection (and all Mutants) is wiped out. Right from the start, one main eternals goal has been to kill The Five. So, Mutant resurrection is at risk, including now with Starfox and Shaw negotiating. Starfox immediately says Mutants might have to give up resurrection, lying that it started the conflict.

I mean that they're basically mentally children and thus child soldier does in fact, make them not fully culpable for their actions.

This is the first time I’m seeing Kro. He’s cool … is this a Gillen thing?

I don’t really like how Magik makes MCU Strange’s sparkly portals here. I hope this isn’t a new look.

Kro goes all the way back to Kirby's first Eternals issue. Gillen's version is snarkier and more noble than previous depictions, but he's always had sympathetic traits, such as his on-and-off 100,000 year long relationship with Thena, or frequently siding with heroic types against bigger threats.

He's an interesting character, and he's gotten a lot of development as Deviants shifted from being monsters to people.

Thanks. I knew Kro was from Kirby but I didn’t know if Gillen gave him a new characterization, like he did with Sinister.

Yeah, especially given that Magik's stepping disks are her one NON-magic based power, they are her mutant ability.

Marvel desperately want the Eternals to be a thing in the MCU. I'm still surprised Ms. Marvel's powers weren't revealed to be from Eternals tech. The jury's still out in Shang-Chi's rings.

So this is good. I get a lot of what I wanted from this crossover here. It feels like its a realistic depiction of a conflict between these groups.

Zuras taking advantage of his durability to punch above his weight in a psionic battle with Xavier (killing Xavier feels like its way above his level though) But the battle is about tying down some of the mutants resources. And the attack on the Eternals facilities is an attack on the logistics of the Hex.

I am waiting for the mutants to realize that their power base is a lot boader than the Eternals. And that the X Mens more standard non-lethal combat is far more appropriate here, since there is only a hundred Eternals and a capture is in practice out for good. Unlike a kill.

Get Rogue blanks of Tempus, Northstar, and Madrox, plus plus. Have a hundred or so time manipulating dupes wizz around at ludicrous speed, freezing the opposition in time.

Drop the X-mens first leader into Olympia (theres got to be a way around the dimensional issues now that they know its there) with the powers and skills of Magneto, Vulcan, Madrox, Cannonball and Jean Grey and just tell a hundred duoes to wreck the Eternals shit. Bonus points for never sending in the prime.

How is it the Eternals don't have top talent mentalists when they have telepaths who've been around for tens of thousands of years?

Frequent erasure/restorations from backup? Lack of basic potential even though they've had since homo erectus was around to develop it?

I dunno, back in Thor #300 the Uni-Mind went to war against the Celestials alongside an Odin-animated Destroyer, and although they lost there was actually a fight. I'd have thought it would be able to ROFLstomp Xavier, Emma, Exodus, and Hope working together. But maybe there were too few Eternals joined with Zuras for its combined powers to attain that level?

Not sure if this is older lore or something Kieron Gillen introduced but Eternals by their nature are pretty static. They don't have as much capabilities to evolve and grow as humans, deviants, or mutants do.
