Heck yeah. Why wouldn’t Anakin hate sand given the life he lead on Tatooine? And then the minute he went back as an adult, Sand People kidnapped and tortured his poor mum to death. And then immediately after that there was that thing on Geonosis that kickstarted the Clone Wars.

I always read "I hate sand" as "Despite how happy I appeared in the last movie, my life as a child slave was one of misery and hardship. I do not hate sand itself, but rather the traumatic past that sand represents."

It's a terrible failure of a line, but you can see what Lucas intended.

It could be retrospection where after seeing what the rest of the galaxy has to offer he realises the place where was born was pretty shitty

And to be fair to him "How to talk to girls" was very unlikely to have been in the Jedi curriculum.

Odd that I hate that last panelk so much, with the red guard exchanging glances. Stormtroopers doing that I can accept, but those dudes should be well used to maniacal cackling at all hours of the night and day.

I read this not as...

but more like...
