Why is MARVEL so insistent on turning Ben into a villain? At least in The Clone Conspiracy he was ultimately well-intentioned and well-meaning.

Nick Lowe said it's because with Miles and Spider-Gwen he was redundant as another Spider-hero.

Which is kind of ridiculous for a number of reasons. I don't think many people are checking for either Miles or Gwen these days and they could have easily just made him the Spidey equivalent to Red Hood if they needed him darker. (Which is what PAD was actually doing up until the abrupt ending of his Scarlet Spider title.)

The other ones seem to get culled in the Spider-Verse crossovers or are relegated to minor roles. One of the big ones just bit it in the first issue.

This being alternate universe shenanigans I expect that anyone important will be restored to business as usual by the end, and anyone else will be replaced by a similar variant.

I suspect that Hallow's Eve will be a popular cosplay choice now that people have a better idea of her concept and look.
