Bringing in Peter "Palmer" who only existed for a single issue because Stan Lee couldn't keep track of his own characters as a "beta version" of Spider-Man is actually a bizarre, if clever move.
I doubt it (but who knows?) It's probably just a reference to him being lifted from that brief period between getting his powers and losing Uncle Ben when he was a legit celebrity for all of five minutes. Which means this Palmer guy should be high on his own ego and new sense of superiority before he gets the responsibility trip.
I think it’s just another sad case of MCU synergy. No Way Home finally revealed their Spider-Man’s real name was Peter Parker the whole time in the last five minutes.
Personally, I hate it. Isn’t the whole point of Spider-Man that it could be anyone under the mask? Why put a name and face to him after all this time?
I wonder if this is going to end with Slott erasing Peter's status as the chosen one so as Marvel doesn't have to answer "If Peter's so important, why doesn't everyone in the Marvel Multiverse keep him happy?"
Don't worry. If she's anything like an actual Disney movie character, this is just the inevitable second act setback for her. Narrative convention is on her side.
But the villains can bypass narrative convention and plot armour! In the first Spider-Verse the Inheritors killed a bunch of well known Spider-Men, destroyed Leopardon and were able to resist the allure of Hostess Fruit Pies, what chance does she have against a threat worse than them?
“Peter Palmer” is used as a joke/reference from time to time. Someone gets Peter’s name wrong, “Peter Palmer,” we laugh about the old mistake Stan Lee left.
Back when Stan Lee and Steve Ditko were still testing things out in the very first Amazing Spider-Man #1, Peter’s surname was mistakenly written as Palmer instead of Parker on one page. Same deal with the hyphen.
Ah, I see, I see. So that's how the magic dagger works. Yes, the spider is sliced from the web, but not the person. And my guess is that what Peter perfectly normal, non powered Parker is holding in his hand is his own chunk of the web, ready for reintegration.
The "Hyphen-Man" bit in #1 was actually planting for this payoff.
I approve. This series does have a few things that irritate me about stories like this ("The villain has destroyed all Peter Parkers on all infinite worlds" is not how infinity works; "your favorite character is the Most Important Version of Peter Ever, dear reader, and aren't you smart for reading about him?"; and the sort of inherent narcissism of the whole thing). But for all that, Slott knows exactly what a story with a talking Spider-Car should deliver: BIG DUMB FUN, with a cake frosting of intelligence sprayed on top.
That’s something I feel modern writers have gotten away from. The “616” designation was supposed to be because “our” Earth wasn’t the center of the multiverse or the most important. It was just the one we got to read about.

"Peter Parker". Bet that name took him, what, two minutes to think up?
