No I love Julie Newmar, and I love Lee Merriweather too, but if any actress was born to play Catwoman, it was the woman with the sexiest purr of a voice in history.... Yup, though they did feature the Julie Newmar Catwoman in the first issue, here she is in her Eartha Kitt incarnation (and I hope they just ignore the difference completely, the show did, after all.

aside from the yellow cape that batgirl costume on the second cover looks somewhat functional...reminds me of Stephs costume.

Yeah, except for the heels. I think it's not bad, really, but those heels have to go.

Even when she was doing voice-work for the Kuzko series as Emperess Yzma, she still had that voice going on. I head her talking in a commercial and knew right off who it was.

Sadly, the rewrites for the movie cost us Yzma's song (She was intended to be a rather different character with a different mission), which mercifully included in the soundtrack though it's not in the movie. And even at the approximate age of 73 she nails it.

Personally, outside of Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer, I would deem Eartha KItt to be the worst of the various actors who have played Catwoman. Not that she couldn't have been good, but all of the sexual tension between her and Batman disappeared, most likely because of the interracial aspect.

I will happily take Julie Newmar hands down.

I was watching this before I knew what sexual tension was, and I never liked Eartha Kitt. I don't think I noticed the interracial aspect, either. (I mostly watched it on a black and white set.) I thought that Eartha Kitt just wasn't as fun as Julie Newmar. She didn't seem as comfortable in the role.

I find that while Eartha Kitt was naturally sexy/sensual... there was no spark/tension between her Catwoman and West's Batman.

A charitable way of saying it would probably be that there was a disconnect.

IN the episodes where she performed as Catwoman, there was zero mention of any sort of attraction between Batman and Catwoman. She became just another villain.

One of the things I wished had happened was that they'd introduced Batgirl in season two. Julie Newmar and Yvonne Craig in those tremendously tight, form-fitting costumes...

Let's just say I find this idea appealing in the same way that icon_uk likes the idea of Dick Grayson tied up in his original outfit. ;)

Well, yes; I don't think that was an accident. The producers just didn't want to go there with the interracial aspect.

Not as yet, though I think it was Jeff Parker who has said that when adding new characters, they'd be thinking about 1960's actors who might have filled such a role, and Ted Cassidy sprang to mind as a likely contender (unless they need a Solomon Grundy I suppose)

You know, that really doesn't look much like Eartha Kitt to me. And, at least in the posted pages, she doesn't have any good purrrring dialog. I'm disappointed.
