As much as I find Lobdell average at best, mediocre at other times… I do miss scenes like this where everyone is having fun.

The X-men baseball game is an interesting phenomenon. It makes a lot of sense as a way to (re)introduce readers to the current line-up and give a rundown of their powers, personalities, and relationships. But I can't really think of any other team having an equivalent recurring bit- we might get characters sparring or training, or occasionally doing a one-off recreational activity, but nothing really on the level of "The X-men play baseball," comes to mind.

(Maybe- and it's one of the few teams with as much of an institutional identity as the X-men- the Fantastic Four doing the "Thing gets pranked by the Yancy Street Gang and the others have to prevent him from rampaging".)
