It's following from the end of issue #1075, which had Batman taken into the custody of the Orghams.

He's chained up in a cell, a demon eating away at his memories - at the Orgham family's mercy, kept to be another instrument of their Gotham-shaping work.

The family's scion, Arzen - the public face of the Orghams - came to the Bat, to Bruce Wayne whom he'd come to consider a friend.

" Only a few hours before you will be walked to your death. "

The azmer loped through Bruce's memories, held back only by the " Barbatos " (" [Bruce's] darkness ", per #1074) in his head.

" Say what goodbyes you can.. while you still remember them. " Barbatos told Bruce.

" .. I have done for you all that I can. "

Three days prior, he'd disguised himself and gone to meet Selina Kyle.

(The ninja outfit is for stealth.)

(Arzen Orgham, loyal to his family and their work in the shadows that Batman opposes, went behind their back to help Batman due to his personal feelings.

Talia al Ghul comparisons are tempting - more so when you consider Talia's role in the story so far as opponent of the Orghams, and Ra's relationship to the family.)

Selina'd thus set off.

' .. is a crew. '

In that bar, she met private investigator Jim Gordon.

" They're going to hang him, Jim. "

" Hang him? That's crazy.. even for Gotham, that's.. "

She asked him to " find out what [his friends] knew[.] "

They split up, each going to those they knew.

Jim went to Gotham police commissioner Renee Montoya with what Selina'd told him:

Renee kept to her cautious skepticism from #1072:

(In the lower right's a " title " indicating those getting looped into Selina's plan - Jim got one too.)

Selina went to Poison Ivy, who received her amiably: " Tell me.. what's got the cat prowling through my little garden? "

That was the main story.

The first of the backups that followed focused on Commissioner Montoya, dealing with a woman who'd found something of her husband's:

Renee thought afterward about Gotham police's inability to act in that case, and how self-limiting her obeying the constraints of her position was.

She became the Question, and went directly asking:

In the school's basement, she found the answer.

' He does not get to ask questions. '

She dealt with the man who'd done things under the cacophony of children at recess:

" How many more if I hadn't stopped you? "

The story ends on a note befitting the " scream " motif.

(The colored bits're from a Rubik's cube she whacked him in the face with.)

The next story features Azrael, Jean-Paul Valley, who was teased in #1073.

He's in Gotham, thinking about ' Something stolen.. [n]ow forgotten. A space in his soul. '

When he looked away from his work, he saw that his allies Vengeance and Karl (who'd fallen in with him at the end of the late 2022 " Sword of Azrael " mini) had stepped out.

He went in search of them, and found them menaced by some azmer-possessed - who he put his flaming sword to.

The azmer-possessed had been dealers in the drug Venom - Vengeance's upbringing had left her addicted to it. Karl'd asked Jean-Paul for help in sourcing some, but he'd been busy at his work - so the two of them had gone out, and got into trouble.

Jean-Paul took the blame for that: " .. you almost died. Because I did not listen..

What had been taken appeared before him.

(Azrael also showed up in the main story, as someone to be pulled into Selina's plan.)

The last story's a two-pager, a summoner on his work.

(Barbatos is in this in some form, so of course Doctor Hurt is too.

Pagecount's a little over 7 of 22 from the main story, 2 and under 1/2 of 8 from the first backup, 2 and a little more than 1/2 of 8 from the second backup, and a little more than 1/4th of 2 from the third.

Writing's Ram V on the first and the last - he also did the art on the latter.

Dan Watters wrote the second and the third. Jason Shawn Alexander drew the first, Christopher Mitten did the second, and Liam Sharp did the third.

Dave Stewart colored the first, and Triona Farrell did the second. Liam Sharp did the third.

Ariana Maher lettered the first, Steve Wands did the second and third, and Aditya Bidikar did the fourth.

Publisher's DC.)
