No. I refuse to accept this level of asshole-ness from Bruce. There is no justification for him to have been hiding stuff from Dick about his parents murder.
It's a pretty decent cliffhanger. All we and Dick know at this point is that some files about the Graysons' murder were hidden in the Batcave. This could mean many things:
- There's something about the murder that Bruce didn't want Dick to know. - New information about the murder came to light, but Bruce didn't know what was up, and didn't want to tell Dick until he'd nailed it down. - Jason got into the Batcave at some point and hid the tape to screw with Dick's head. - Bruce lost track of the tape after the last time somebody trashed the Batcave, and it happened to skid under one of the memorial cases.
Personally, my pick on this one is that it's a Jason Todd mindgame.
I admit it. The cliffhanger totally got me. I'm a sucker for Flying Graysons mysteries.
And I liked the moment where Dick was cleaning out the cave and decided to take the Batman case but leave Jason's because that was Bruce's cross to bear and not his.
Dick's mother has a strange face in that picture, but then, so does Dick. Mary Grayson is usually always pictured with a huge smile. Sometimes she literally looks like she was traced from a Bettie Page picture.
anyhoo...I'm not totally yet horrified by this um...new...revelation. Cuz well, what? It's just a case file. Maybe Bruce kept there till Dick was older and forgot it was there? lol...nevermind. Anyhoo, there's not a lot to go by. Okay, case file. What about it? And how ironic...it was under Jason's trophy case. Didn't Bruce hide the truth from Jason too? hm...
...maybe the Flying Graysons were the ones who did that unmentionable traumatic thing that Bruce cryptically referred to in his "good-bye, my greatest failure" video to Jason.
Yeah, I just implied the Graysons sexually assaulted Jason. What of it?
Batman yelling "You're trapped WITH ME!" creates a weird comic book feedback loop; this line was used to memorable effect in Watchmen movie (Rorschach's "I'm not trapped here with you! You're trapped here with me!"), and the actor's delivery strongly evoked the over-the-top growliness of...the Nolanverse Batman!
First time I recall that phrase was in Ellis' Excalibur run where Kitty uses it to a guy posessing Kurt who thinks he has the poor little girl trapped with him. It doesn't end well for the guy.
If the case file is hidden in the case it means he had some inkling that things weren't right at the circus, didn't act soon enough, and partly blames himself.
Does anyone else get slightly uncomfortable when they start ranting at the mentally ill people while they're savagely beating them? I mean, there's no denying Harvey is dangerous, but why the hell lecture him as if he's a rational human being?
For all I heard Bagley's art was awesome and we were so lucky to have Winick and Bagley on Batman, I'm not seeing it. The last 2 pages of this arc were better and less predictable (well finally a twist) than any of the rest of the three books, and Bagley's art wasn't fit to shine Tony Daniel's boots.
I'm not sure I approve of Harvey spotting the 'Jonah Hex' look there. I mean, I know that this'll probably only last until the next artist gives things his twist, but that really is kinda Hex's trademark, and it doesn't look right on someone else. Oh - and Batman knocking his shoe off with the force of the kick is classic. (Why do you think Harvey has the end of his sock cut off, though? He likes to give his toes wiggle-room?)
