I'm reminded of the only good line in Doomsday Clock, when Luthor tells Ozymandias, "If you're the smartest person in your world, I'd hate to meet the dumbest." (paraphrased from memory)
If we have to explain the different Joker takes, I prefer the Grant Morrison explanation that the Joker is just so crazy that he can't even be consistent in how he's crazy. Simple, elegant.
Or just take the Doylist approach and accept that any character who's been written continuously for decades is going to get reinvented. Does Marvel need to explain why Iron Man became so quippy?
I don’t how to feel about The “three Jokers” are revealed to be three backup personalities the Joker creates using Capito’s training. Mirroring Bruce using that training to create Zur-en-Arrh. But instead are the Clown, the Demon, and Death.
I guess it is a cool concept. Joker reinvents himself in an inane notion that he’s been three entirely separate characters this entire time. So the Joker paralyzed Barbara Gordon (But got better) was the demon joker?
