I love that apparently, Throwdown (the girl on stilts, another Al Ewing creation) has joined the team on a long-term basis.
Ewing loves the Death-Throws and that in turn makes me happy, because they are definitely one of my favorite themed villain teams. (Ewing's used them a bunch of times, including Avengers, Inc for instance...)
I'd like to think that's the Anti-Gritty. I love how elements of his design are also borrowed from Xemnu, last seen in THE IMMORTAL HULK.
I am such a big fan of how Al Ewing, like all the best comic book writers, has quietly built his own universe within a universe, and it encompasses the Beyonders and the Symbiote God and also this goofy bunch of lovable criminal jugglers with a 401(k) plan.
I disagree. Venom was at his most unhinged when he had the human teeth. His first lines to Peter were, "Could you be...would you be...my neighbor?" Quoting Mr. Rogers. His logic was also extremely twisted. He blamed Spider-Man for his career falling apart because MAYBE...if he hadn't caught Carter, he wouldn't have killed again and Emir would have taken the fall...completely forgetting that Gregory Emir was in custody when Carter was attacking the Bugle. Never mind that Carter would NOT have stopped.
This misses Dylan just hating on Paul every single panel they share. With a passion. Like something of Venom's love of Peter was left and decided fuck this guy.
In short I love it, and its all this comic needed to be.
C'mon...it's Rick Jones. "Tell me you picked up some science hanging out with..."
Banner? Pym? Stark? Rick Jones has hung out with them all. Robbie has spent time with Peter, sure, but Peter isn't the type to talk science...particularly the make-up of gunpowder. Madame Masque has enough scientific knowledge of her own. Cage has worked WITH some scientists, but not really hung out with them.
Though, judging from Venom speaking directly to his host, I have to wonder if they're entirely aware of what's going on. Maybe they're being ridden like the symboite used to do with Peter when he went to sleep.
I just can't think of who else that could mean...out of the four suspects anyway. Which brings up the question...could it be all of them? Why bother with one host when it could pick any at random?
Oh my god, I am SUCH a git. You're right, it's a total red herring...meant to make us think the symboite is talking to the host instead of the other way around. That's who would have picked up some science hanging out with someone. The symboite picked up some science from Peter Parker! Specifically chemistry! Well, more specifically, bio-chemistry, but also more broad chemistry.
It's funny to me because that feels like a Rick clue ...until you remember that two of the other suspects are close to Tony Stark.
And Peter Parker is a chemist and Robbie has known him for ages.
Actually, is this still the original symbiote from Secret Wars? It knows Peter extremely well and the new alternative theory is that there's no host in there.
The old alternative theories are that it's MJ or Randy...who have also known Peter forever.
Yes, that's more or less the theory; it is talking to itself to throw people off.
As near as I can tell the actual evidence is just that a projectile went through Venom's head but (a) Venom's anatomy has always been weird if you think about it in relation to the human host* and (b) I'm pretty sure every suspected host except for maybe Mayor Cage could easily fit in Venom's huge torso.
*I can't be the only 90s reader who looked at Venom's big mouth hanging open and wondered where Eddie's face was.
Ehh...I've seen the symboite forming around the face enough times to know where it is. You can see the bottom teeth forming at neck level on Eddie. The bigger question is where the stuff Venom eats goes. Not in Eddie's mouth...
""A hat on a hat". If only you could hear yourself. The very phrase is prejudiced. The Death-Throws are nothing more than a "zero-to-one hat only" club."
Still think that there's a possibility it's Venom operating more than one body at a time.
(anyone else buying the physical copies and finding the artwork kind of blurry? Because this and Venom War seem to be having some issues with that...)
I consistently heard some good things and I'll probably look up the trades some day, but the "symbiotes are cosmically important instead of some weird one off alien" thing Marvel's been on for the last decade plus just did... nothing for me. Made me actively resist it, honestly.
