Marvel seems pretty dead set on retroactively claiming they were Betty and Veronica even if the original comics disagree.

(Which is which is anyone's guess)

Not sure if that makes Felicia a Cheryl or a Valerie.

I really hate this trend of adapting a character by stripping away everything recognizable about them.

But maybe this show will be better than the early press makes it seem.

So far this story seems to have Peter working through the early stages of his identity to get closer to more familiar elements, like costume and web-shooters. It feels very much like a recognizable evolution of early Spider-Man to me, just taking a little while to get to the final iteration.

Nico is sort of a symptom. The MCU gave us a lot of familiar names with unfamiliar personalities. This is just throwing an unrelated character from an entirely different coast and generation at Peter.

But mostly I'm bothered that they had the bite happen outside the school instead of a science event he chose to attend. I know that ship sailed decades ago when the Ultimate Universe made it a field trip but I really prefer making the powers an unforseen result of a choice he made.

Also..."duces, Parker out"? Really?

(And while I'm not a "Spider-Man should always be an outcast" purist, I really hate the they keep giving him influential benefactors like Fury, Stark, and Osborn. I get that it's easier to sell new toys when there's an in-universe reason for a new vehicle, costume, or gadget to exist but if they insist on making Peter a high school kid then he should really have the resources of one.)
