I like that it was five years old Lex device (shown in fragment, memory, flashbacks by Lex)that calm baby clark. Who been crying non-stop for a few days after Martha and Jonathan Kent found him in a cornfield.
Also Lionel Luther is always a bastard no matter what universe, he resides in.
I… like good Lex. I don’t want bad Lex back. Yes, I know the universe and corporate demand an evil Lex, but I think he’s done a good job of trying to be better and deserves a break. Find another evil scientist to step up for a while. DC is crawling with them.
"In Superman #15 by Joshua Williamson, Rafa Sandoval, Alejandro Sánchez, and Ariana Maher, Brainiac's ship is in crisis mode. While Superman and his fight Brainiac and his forces, Lex and Lena's minds are plugged into the ship's computer system. The system is guarded by several defenses, but Lex fights to keep himself and his daughter safe. Thankfully, Lex defeats the last of the sentries and the two make their way to the most prized thing on Brainiac's ship, the core of Brainiac's hive mind.
Lex connects to Brainiac’s mind and begins to purge everything. Lex marvels at the hive mind and thinks how he once would have given anything to possess its knowledge. But Lex recognizes that there’s more to life than knowledge and power. Lex tells his daughter that he’s going to erase Brainiac’s brain to his own and wipe it completely. Lena warns her father that he’s not powerful enough to survive such a thing. However, the elder Luthor says it’s worth it to save his daughter and his friends. Lex connects to Brainiac’s mind and begins to purge everything.
Lex’s gambit works and causes Brainiac’s ship to destabilize. While Brainiac scrambles to save his Queen, the Super Family gets everyone else to safety. After things calm down in the wake of Brainiac’s attack, Lena approaches Superman with her father in tow. Clark says that he was wrong to ever doubt Luthor’s intentions and tells his oldest enemy how proud he is of the person Lex has evolved into. However, Superman’s words fall on deaf ears as Lex Luthor’s mind has been erased and he doesn’t remember who he is."
Surprised they gave Lex another redemption arc so soon after such a hard 180 on the last one. (... OK, ~6 years isn't THAT soon, I suppose, but...) I like this take, though. (At least by that summary.) Bit of death-by-redemption but also not death-by-redemption.
This is one of those times when I can't really blame the characters for not realizing they're in a comic, but I still end up shouting advice at the panels.
S: Keep playing that piano! We need to get your memories back, Lex! L: Y tho? S: You were a brilliant scientist and working toward redemption! Your last act as your old self was to SAVE THE EARTH! I won't rest until the brilliant man I once knew reaches his fullest potential for the benefit of all humanity! L: You realize this isn't like a "save game" feature, right? If those memories come back, they're going to be jumbled and out of order and I'll be parsing and prioritizing them differently. They'll make me into a NEW Lex, and there are better chances of rolling boxcars at the craps table than there are of getting three nice Lexes in a row. S: You're right, I shouldn't push you. But I have faith in you-- L: Y THO? S: Because I have faith in all humanity, and you're a part of humanity, Lex. L: That...that sounds very sweet, but if you applied that, you'd be constantly forgiving all your villains. Wait...are you constantly forgiving ALL your villains? If Doomsday came up to you and said "Sorry for killing you, bro, but I need you to work with me to save the future," would you say "Sounds legit," or-- S: I just want to help you to be whole. Plus we're totally stumped on this problem with multiversal physics that we'd need a mega-Einstein to understand, but no pressure. Our universe has plenty of uber-geniuses to fall back on--no, wait, that's Marvel--well, anyway, I'm not here to guilt you, so...bye. L: Oh, what the hell, I'll try playing the piano some more, what's the worst that could happen-- [Plays "Pocketful of Kryptonite"] ME: WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS???
