Kinda frustrating that Kieron Gillen's 2015 Vader series did this exact same thing - right down to the shutdown button concept - and all it would have taken to knit together the continuity was just look it up and use the name "Doctor Cylo" as this idiot's father.

The story's fine, and there's a neat hook in the idea of Vader as an almost supernatural, unstoppable danger. But it doesn't quite work for me, because I feel like the movies and series etc. have established that Darth Vader is fundamentally a big dumb baby throwing a temper tantrum. His boundless well of hatred gives him a ton of brute force, but he has no finesse, and if you get him mad, you can trick him pretty easily. Whatever cunning he had as a general during the clone wars has rusted as he instead gets lazy falling back on blunt Force power.

He can be all-powerful OR he can be smart. Making him both seems like cheating.

I don’t see the contradiction even if that’s true, using his force powers to kill everyone around him is fairly standard for Vader. Not much different than him grabbing people’s guns.

I thought Vader in the comics post ROTS was more clever?

Wasn't the idea that after Mustafar that Vader with only 80 percent of his actual potential that he had to outwit and beat Jedi psychologically ?

I know post-Disney there has been more of a focus on Vader being outright powerful, but he relied on some level of cunning to beat Jedi, I thought?
