[personal profile] thokstar requested scans from the last issue of Catwoman. Here they are, along with the cover to the up-coming Catwoman #83.

The issue begins with Batman chasing Catwoman across town. He finally manages to catch up with her and tries to talk with her, but...

Today Black Mask is... Emperor Zombie!
"NOT THE FACE!"

I didn't think of Emperor Zombie, but I definitely got a Mignolia vibe from BL Black Mask.

Is that Bruce or Dick Grayson?

I was a little confused by whether this is Dick (Selina's been known to kiss Dick - with a hilarious outcome) or Bruce.

I am not sure whether after that realization about Helena, Selina would be stealing the Batmobile. Btw, is it ever referenced elsewhere (that the Batmobile was stolen by Selina?)

Wow, I thought she was talking about Huntress when she said Helena...changed the context entirely.

I freaking love that cover.

Also, what's that weird pink and blue thing in the first two panels?

I actually liked Will Pfeifer's Catwoman. I think AA however killed whatever career he had at DC. But now that Fabian Nicieza has dropped out of the Blackest Night issue maybe they'll give it to Pfeifer.

I both do and I don't feel sorry for Will Pfeiffer. On one hand his run on Aquaman (the whole Sub-Diego storyline and he created the new Aquagirl Lorena) I thought was fantastic and I was sorry DC didn't continue it. His run on Catwoman too was good until OYL hit...

And this is where I don't feel sorry for him. He's a guy who has to feed his family, sure, and on his blog he took all the abuse from commenters on AA like a pro. So DC gives him Amazons Attacks all plotted out for him- and he does it. DC tells him to give Catwoman a baby (and it was obviously another editorial OYL gimmick) and he does it. But I'm sure DC didn't tell him to have the Amazons, Wonder Woman "avatar of peace"'s own people, behead on-panel an innocent father and small son just because they happen to be male in the very first issue. And I'm sure DC, even if they told him Bruce couldn't be the father outside his own titles (this is what he said) didn't tell him to make the BabyDaddy the result of a tawdry unprotected one-night-stand with the son (conveniently dead as OYL begins) of her former lover and current associate Slam, who she knows loves her, and she cares a lot about (she even broke up with him because she didn't want to hurt him by using him) making Selina insensitive and sleazy, two things she tries not to to be. That stuff was all on Pfeiffer and it was bad.

I wouldn't mind if they gave him another shot at it though. When he's on - he's a good writer.

I agree. When he was good, he was quite enjoyable. But man, when he was bad it was not just bad it was ... Amazon's Attack bad! So bad that it set a new standard for bad.

Don't forget that fuckery with Angle Man and Cheetah. You can't blame anyone else for his ruining and jobbing Wondy's villains.

Does Pfeifer even work for DC anymore?

I suspect that Krul will end up writing this; he feels like the sort of person who could handle a Blackest Night fill-in job on short notice.

I like that idea--plus his Titans mini was freakin' excellent.

From: [personal profile] ravenous_raven
aw, this is a little disappointing. I liked the old Selina who could care for actual people (see: baby) and gain intimate insights into them (see: Bruce) besides all her love of action and sparkly things...and now she's just reduced back to a thief who just lives for the thrill :(

and what did Holly have to say about giving the Catwoman identity back to Selina?

Thanks to Adam Hughes and his love of Audrey Hepburn and his beautiful Catwoman covers (they were the best thing about the book), I can't help but picture Selina looking like Audrey now - even when other people are drawing her and even though AH didn't have Selina's body type.

okay, deciding being Catwoman is more important than your kid is a bad way to end the book.

Yeah, I really far more prefered her as the more morally-grey vigilante.

I didn't care at all for the story in Catwoman #82.

But that cover for 83 is fantastic.

I have to say I enjoyed the art in this, but I have mixed feelings about this ending.

I hate hate hate how every male superhero in the DCU can have kids but hardly any of the women can. It's ridiculous.

the only thing i liked about this issue is that she stole the batmobile; other than that, she came across quite stupid and confused, not to mention unattractive. Meh!
