There is this one image that is causing all kinds of commotion over at the CBR boards, and since I have yet to make it to my comic shop, I thought I'd share what I found online. CBR Forums has the most dailed down and honest discussion so far, but I thought this group here could do better at translating the art before us.

Just like in the other instance where the Star Sapphire showed Kyle and Soranik their hearts desire, Diana breaks through the rage and into the realm of passion within Red Lantern Mera, and a feed back occurs.

Lots to talk about, but I would focus on one of the images.

Would we call it canon that Diana does not see Trevor or another of the other romantic men in her life, but Bruce Wayne? And I see Silver Swan III, as signs of her anger and rage.
And is that Devastation or young Diana getting crowned princess?

I like Caleb Mozzocco interpretation of the scene at Everyday is Like Wednesday; the two sets of pictures are designed to show the similarities between Diana and Mera. For example, the torture of Silver Swan is similar to the death of Aquababy. Treating it that way answers most of your questions.

Off the top of my head I would say her 1000 years in the DC Asgard vs. DemonLord fighting alongside Clark .

The DCAU has pervaded into the DCU, apparently. Which makes me happy, because the Batman/Wonder Woman ship is the reason I got into comics in the first place.

So you have her winning the contest, snapping Lords' neck, Vanessa as Silver Swan, something with her and Supes. And her giving a gooey eyed look at Bruce? Why do I feel like singing "One of these is not like the other?"

Diana should have been an Indigo Lantern, I still don't see anything in her that would qualify as Star Sapphire.

And I still can't see Diana/Bruce I mean if this had taken place before or during JLA#91 (heck even immediately after) then maybe but after what happened with Max and IC, to me at least, they can only remain good friends.

That said I love Nicola Scott's pencils but Diana is so not shorter than Bruce.

My first thought was that Wonder Woman was attacking Mera so she could steal her clothes and get rid of that awful Star Saphire costume. :P

Making moony eyes with Bruce is ok because she's also wearing Clark's cape! Diana has two, count 'em, two pals that she could be in love with but can't. The OT3 that cannot be. :)

Nicola Scott outdid herself, I think. The whole issue looks great. If I had to pick at NS art, I would say that all of her women are too doe-eyed. It's growing on me, but progress is slow. I don't know if it's her fault, or Rucka's, or editorial, but I hate almost everything about the costume, including her disco collar and the gold banded armor on her butt. But I really, really love the tiara-with-greek-helmet-noseguard. I'm going to have a new icon tomorrow...

Carol loves Hal, Hal not so much. :(

I do like the idea of lantern ring + magic lasso = don't-cross-the-streams level power!

So Mera's got a big secret that she kept from Arthur, and she hates herself. Dun dun dun. This better not be lame.

Motto to schala_kid: Diana is compassion much more than love. The only reason she's in violet is because she's a woman, and they didn't want to put Ray in Carol's costume. Although Ray's in something like Carol's costume already, but they gave him pants. Meh, enough before I go red lantern, I don't feel like cleaning up blood tonight.

All the other color lanterns turn one of the Justice League or the Legion of Doom into their own sidekick lanterns, except Hal. The one ring to rule them all, I guess.

Why is she wearing Clark's cape anyway? Is that referencing a specific scene or is it supposed to be symbolic?

I don't think Bruce/Diana works in the canon DCU -- mostly for the reasons explicitly dealt with in that JLA issue (#91, was it? Or #90? I own it, you'd think I remember). Sure, they have much in common, but there's also some great differences there, and like Diana pointed out, there's equal potential for "Happily ever after" and "Absolute catastrophe".

(plus, damn it, that gets in the way of Bruce/Selina. And I can't be having that)

I liked in the DCAU, but the characters were a little bit different there. But either way, I hardly think it's a deal-breaker. And Bruce is dead at the moment anyway, it makes sense Diana might be missing him a bit.

I've AU!shipped Diana and Bruce since I was what, eight?

The key part of that is the AU bit. In my version, Diana was not a moony lovestruck teenager in a pink stripper suit and Bruce was less of an arsehole all round, and a lot more worthy of her affections. And Selina was happily single/involved with the Riddler (look, I was eight okay) somewhere else.

That whole convo between Mera and Diana seemed weird. I have to think Rucka talked with Johns about it first (since Johns will be writing Mera in Brightest Day almost certainly and since I think we all know Aquaman will be back). Having Artie Jr. not be Orin's child or having her had an affair with Black Manta (never even hinted at before) is something I've seen on some message boards but neither make much sense in terms of continuity or characterization. Or it could be just the "I never wanted children line" from the earlier GL/BN issue they're talking about.

As for Diana and Bruce. I am intrigued. This is two issues in a row now we've seen this (and their faces - sans cowl-even are the central point of Di's thoughts while her wearing Kal's cape is done from the back and in the corner). I've never taken Rucka as a shipper before, so I have to wonder if this is DC Editorial wanting to pursue this or just GR playing with the readers?

I think it's Rucka being a shipper. One of the things he's said about his run is that if he weren't pulled, he'd have started a romance between her and "another DC hero," and when you look back at Hiketeia and Bruce's guest appearances during the Psycho investigation, it's sadly just as easy to read them as "hinty protesting-too-much" as it is "flat dismissal of any possible relationship here."

Diana/Bruce has been played with before in the comics and, imo, outside of JLU it's never clicked.
