Damn, I was hoping for the bearded, one-handed version of the character. Still an interesting cover, a sense of darkness in it, even without the dead reflection. Can't explain.

Actually, if they were dead, they'd be belly up. I think it#s just a way to play with the mirrored image theme. they#re swimming half on the dead side, and half on the living one.

i might also be completely wrong, mind you.

the water isn't very deep. Dead sharks I've seen wash up seem to be sidelying which know makes no sense because of the placement of their huge liver. Of course I haven't seen any dead sharks in open water... And comparative anatomy was way too many years ago.

I know they don't have true eyelids to close when they die so we can't use that as a clue to the dead vs. live shark debate (although if people die when they are awake, their eyes tend to stay open till you close them... alright, prattling on about dead things can't be good for me!)

There is a species called Lantern Sharks. Perhaps these are Black Lantern Sharks!

Oh, and Lantern Sharks are adorable with their big ol' eyes. Although it might be quite scary if some of them got black lantern rings. Or think about, like, a Great White Shark with a red lantern ring. D:

Here's hoping the character finally gets the respect and treatment he so sorely deserves. If it weren't for SUPERFRIENDS, the character wouldn't be considered such a go-to punchline for lazy smart-asses.

Ted's already back. I think DC is cheating on this (which is way Giffen/Winnick can say Blue Beetle's staying dead in interviews and yet that he'll be a regular character in Booster Gold). In his last issue of Booster Gold, Geoff Johns brought back a Ted Kord from an alternative timeline where Booster had stopped the Max Lord shooting and we just got a shadowy Bwa-Ha from Ted's old lab. Then in the Booster Gold Blackest Night issue, Booster notices that someone's been in Ted's lab RECENTLY and the only ones with access were himself and Ted. So bringing back an alternate timeline Ted Kord can keep Ted dead and alive at the same time.

The book was pretty good while Busiek was still writing it.

But it didn't sell for shit, and the issues after him were terrible.

He was pretty much discarded in second. In the Titans issue focusing on Tempest they mentioned he left the orange shirt behind and just left. He didn't even get an on-panel goodbye and they never mentioned his name. Which - considering Aquaman has a property is still valuable to DC/WB even if his solo books don't sell great - was a big scene the original orange shirt wearing Arthur Curry was coming back.

He retired from being Aquaman at the start of Blackest Night. Garth found his weapons and armor lying on the throne of Atlantis.

Truth. I can't believe people thought Johns would give Mera some prominence (and mention making Black Manta a big time villain again on Twitter) and not thinking Arthur was coming back - especially after BN:WW #3 where Diana pointedly told Mera it wasn't too late for her.

To be fair, Johns has always written an interesting Ted Kord. With a different ending, Countdown to Infinite Crisis would be considered one of Blue Beetle's best stories, and Johns used him well in Booster Gold also.

Isn't this a huge tip-off though to what almost of us (the readers) are thinking - that a bunch of dead heroes (and vlllians) are going to be resurrected at the end. I always thought J'onn and Aquaman were givens, with their place in the Big 7 and in DC/WB merchandising. The Atom and Hawkman one-shot (written by Johns) was a huge clue that the Hawks will be back. And the BN:TT mini-series layed it on pretty thick that Hank Hall/Hawk/Monarch/Extant will be back (which may mean Holly/Hawk is staying wormfood).

Can anyone think of anyone else (outside of those who have been killed IN the mini-series itself like Tempest and Damage) who will definitely be returning?

Well the Hawks aren't in JSA books at the moment but Damage is so, I don't know.

I've never paid much attention to Aquaman, but it's nice to see him back and I'm happy for the people that wanted him back. That being said, I never really got the whole thing about how everyone acts like Aquaman is useless because of things like, "his power is to talk to fish and stuff, lol, that's so dumb". Yeah, being able to talk to ocean life is really useless and dumb, especially since there is nothing in the ocean that can hurt/kill you. Oh wait. I think they showed pretty well just how dangerous Aquaman can be in the Blackest Night issue where the Black Lantern Aquaman calls up a bunch of sharks to eat the people who were attacking him.

And speaking of sharks, this cover makes me sad because of all the dead ones. I like sharks. :(

What tickles me is how DC made this big fuss about ending the whole resurrection thing after Blackest Night. Are they just bringing everyone back so that deaths can count from now on, or were they totally bullshitting us?
