Seriously, Mogo was the most unique lantern, but now he's just the feature in an old worn-out song titled "Yet Another Lantern Planet".

Exactly, and now it's probably going to be running gag. Every six months or so, you'll probably see a page like this:

GL 1: Things are about to get a whole lot worse.
GL 2: Why?
GL 1: Do you remember that one planet?
GL 2: Oh shit!

Yeah, it certainly doesn't fit well with the origin of The Entity. I haven't read BN #7 yet, but going by a recent post here, I'm guessing that the Guardians were trying to isolate Earth since the dawn of time. Hal was the first, which was an emergency due to Abin Sur's death, and then they just decided "Oh well, I guess a few more human Lanterns won't hurt."

The Guardians must have figured out that more human Lanterns = more sales.
