Seriously, Tim, I know you and Steph have issues and all, but there's not an award out for how many ways you can tells someone they're a useless screw-up and all around icky girl. (He told her she was playing DRESS UP. . WHAT. ) At least Stephanie's fighting back this time, and calling him on his assholery last time they met. You go, girl!

All in all, the argument is pretty much going the way I predicted. I'm waiting with bated breath for her to compare him to Edward Cullen

Love the fortune-cookie dialogue (I'm assuming that's what it is?) from the training 'bots.

At least Tim realized that he was throwing stones, and took off his cowl before continuing. I like that segment.

And look, Cass got name-dropped! Could this mean she's coming back sometime this year? Maybe Tim will go looking for her next, if she doesn't come back after hearing about Bruce's return.

However, I am not not so keen on the art all around.

While Tim in this specific instance, and Bruce, Dick ect ect at various others, do behave like jerks, there remains one fundamental problem for me wherein they're basically in the right. We saw it in the Batgirl Year One scans posted recently too.

Namely: who owns the bat symbol and who's entitled to wear it.

If you want to be an independent vigilante and do your thing, good luck to you. No higher power gave Bruce permission, and you don't need it either. (I'm fully aware Bruce has been known to claim that right as god-emperor of the Gotham night, but that's a separate issue.)

If you want to wear the BAT, and therefore claim all the rights/privileges that go with it... Different story. That *is* Bruce's, and does require permission the way I see it. You're explicitly trading on his established reputation, and using that as a shortcut to build your own. And while that's most true on a meta level (lazy writers, no biscuit) it's true in-universe too. Your actions reflect on him, and as such you have to follow his established code of behaviour. I think inducted members of the clan *are* entitled to question newcomers. And don't get me started on the use of the cave. I think that's the grossest kind of bad taste, given it's under the dead guy's home.

Steph's not exactly a newcomer to the Batclan, though. She's been Robin before and now she's working with Babs, who was Batgirl before her (and worked out, AFAIK, all the Bat-symbol related issues with Bruce). I think this, if nothing else, means that she knows rather well what Bruce's 'established code of behaviour' is.

1. She's been a member of the Clan since Bruce started training her back in the 90s,
2. She has been directly and explicitly awarded the Batgirl mantle by both former Batgirls.

If you're really going to start trying to throw around claims of seniority, what Babs has to say about all this matters a hell of a lot more than anything Tim tries to add.

And I really don't see what the big deal is about Babs using the Cave. Yes, it is under the dead guy's house. I'm wearing a necklace right now that used to sit around a dead woman's neck. That's how inheritance works; you die, your stuff gets used by your family.

In addition to what others have said I'll add that Dick is also fine with Steph as Batgirl as of the last issue. He's also fine with the Batcave.

It's a Simpsons quote AFAIK, though obviously the Simpmsons could have been referencing something older. But mostly it's Babs being a nerd is what it is, which makes me disturbingly happy.

Eh, that's a common enough one with an uncommon enough etymology that I'm not surprised it got through.

I was speaking very generally, and I certainly didn't mean to imply she doesn't know or adhere to the norms. I'm not criticising her at all. I'm responding (and, I admit, without having read any more than the scans posted here from time to time) to the general gut reaction that she can't be questioned.

But Tim doesn't know that Dick approves. Add that to the fact that Steph gets snarky when Tim asks where Dick is, and I can see Tim believing that Steph doesn't have approval from Batman. And I do agree with Arysteia about needing Batman's approval to dress up as Bat-anyone, and I can forgive Tim for being a little short tempered.
