Comics Alliance has put up what I think is a pretty accurate (and funny) 60 second overview of Blackest Night. My favorite is Wonder Woman.

And for legality, Wonder Woman and her "crush" in the Hiketeia

Date: 2010-04-09 05:08 am (UTC)I also think "League of One" is just as insulting and treats Diana as just as much an idiot as apparently "Tower of Babel" treats Batman. And fair enough. When Batman stupidly puts his team-mates in mortal danger for no real reason over something that sorts itself out anyway, it's so much worse when Diana stupidly puts her team-mates in mortal danger for no real reason over something that sorts itself out anyway.

Date: 2010-04-10 09:53 am (UTC)Uh, no? The Oracle predicts that all who fight the dragon will die.
And, indeed, all who fight the dragon die.
Diana ensured that all the others did not fight the dragon and did not die.
The discussion between Diana and Bruce centres around their conflicting beliefs - Diana believes the Oracle at Delphae is never wrong in its predictions, Bruce believes it's so much mumbo-jumbo. Similar to the talk in Hiketeia, where Bruce doesn't really believe that Diana's beliefs and traditions are relevant.

Date: 2010-04-09 01:35 am (UTC)I mean, even before you get to the problems inherent in the system itself or the fact that Ra's was able to access it, those are some of the dumbest contingency plans ever. The three most physically powerful Leaguers get takedowns that wouldn't even work against mind control, and Arthur's takes multiple hours to even kick in. I will believe Bruce is not nicer than that. I will never believe Bruce is not smarter than that.
League of One, by contrast, gives Diana victories that make sense. It serves the characters, and makes Diana seem phenomenal, while Babel uses the characters and makes Bruce seem incompetent. It hardly makes the latter a useful rebuttal to the former.
whoops, sorry about the html bork there

Date: 2012-05-31 12:21 am (UTC)Just try to keep in mind, one of the fundamental aspects of Batman is 'the victory is in the preparation.' And when he's dealing with beings that could reduce him into a thin red smear without any appreciable effort, he needs a fuckton of preparation... Which he's taken care of, because he's Batman.
But when he's outclassed by this much power, most of Batman's fight is wearing the other side down enough that he can handle them himself- and the margin for error is pretty well nonexistent. It's a testament to the awesomeness of Batman how rarely that happens, but even he can be surprised (hence the Joker's continued threat)- and mechanical failures are a fact of life.
Any part of the plan goes wrong, and instead of dealing with a battered messed-up hero that's ready for the knockout, he's dealing with a pissed-off hero with plenty of fight left... who happens to be almost infinitely faster than he is and could blow his heart out through his spine with a well-placed breath.
But again, that practically never happens... because he's BATMAN.
