Guillem March's art kind of works for psychadelic dream sequences. But yes, not on retro's List of Favorites either.

That's weird that Jason would be older and dressed like the bat, but with the red domino mask and the crowbar injuries. Definitely yay for black hair.

I wonder why he calls her Oracle. I can see Jason, Babs, and of course Bruce being in his nightmare, but why is Selina there?

I kind of wondered about that myself. Maybe she's fresh in his mind because he's had a recent interaction with her in the last issue? Anyway, not complaining. Tony Daniel's one of the few creators who like Selina and goes out of his way to include her in his stories. Just wish he were also drawing her instead of March.

I think the world in this issue has shown Selina as being a prominent person because Dick recognizes her as an important person to Bruce. In that way she's kind of like...well, she's not his stepmother by any means, but there is a little bit of that vibe. So I could totally believe his own mother would turn into Catwoman in his dream. (She's also acrobatic etc.) I kind of like that detail...

He's basically surrounded here by the people who in this title he's felt judged by, I think: Jason, Selina and Babs.

Oh good eye! I didn't even notice that. Even though I still don't entirely dig his style, either, March does put a lot of good, Easter-egg kind of detail in his art, for sure.

It's pretty clearly a case of turning the page upside down and then drawing her as if she was upright.

I dunno, she appears to be swinging foward on the trapeze, so it makes some sense that her hair is going backward.

It's a dream sequence. If Dick subconsciously thinks Jason has black hair, that's his problem, not reality's or DC's.

You know what saddens me about this whole preview? Dick is in boxer-briefs and does not look nearly as appeasing as he should.

It's been done again and again, but I never get tired of the falling motif as a metaphor for Dick!angst. Bruce died and left him alone with a mantle he didn't want, Babs hasn't pulled him back the way she might have when they were closer, and the ugly specter of Jason, (ie, the ultimate rival for Bruce's affection), has been there every step of the way, reminding him of all his inadequacies. They all represent failures, missed opportunities, people he's depended on in the past who are letting him down now, in one way or another.

And tiny!Dickie is tiny. Omg.

Count me into the "I love falling!Dick mode." Whether he's falling or other people are falling and he can't catch them. Sure it's done a lot, but it's totally believable that would be his personal imagery. I especially like it when he thinks of his life as basically a moment where he could have fallen after his parents died, but Bruce was there to catch him. And it is always interesting to me which way it's going, whether it's other people letting Dick fall or Dick failing to catch others.

The swinging Batman/Bruce skeleton makes me laugh yet horrifies me at the same time. Well done.

You know, I never know how to feel about Guillem March's art. Sometimes I think it's very pretty and awesome and then other times I'm just like, "WHAT", but I think this is pretty good. I especially like Dick's face on the next page when he's waking up with how completely freaked out he looks. As one would be after having a dream like that.

Yeah, March has been growing as an artist lately. When I first saw him in Sirens, he was just a bad cheesecake artist, but now he's starting to get pretty good, I think. :)

What baffles me about the Bruce skeleton is the fact that Dick still wants that thing to catch him. That seems rather bizarre. Even the sub-conscience mind would be like 'no dude, I don't think going to that skeleton for help is a good idea.'

Oh great they dropped me. Uh where exactly am I? Oh great there's the production credits. There are some things that are still unresolved here guys. How do I get home? What do I eat? Was Catwoman my Mom? Hell was this all in my mind? What is Batman? Is it a Freudian thing? Am I real? Does the bus run through here? Return of Bruce Wayne better sure as hell make up for this. You ran out ink too you stupid bastards.
