In this issue, Tim is a sad little Robin.
It starts out with Tim beating the snot out of a guy who'd been holding a bunch of kids hostage. Dick is not amused.

Tim explains why he's down in the dumps: "Sometimes this job just gets to you. What I wouldn't give for the good ol' days I've heard about. I'd trade just one of these psychos with a gun fixation for a dozen costumed villains any day."
Batgirl reminds him that they have those (Joker, Two-Face, etc.) but Tim wants something a little lighter; more wacky. Babs and Dick decide to cheer him up...

I can't tell you how much I love Dick calling Tim "chum". And everything about this page, to be honest. Look at Tim's smirk in the first panel--you know he knew right away. Either that or he's admiring the view. Hm.
So Dick, Tim, and Babs go to give Batman some backup, but he's already done by the time they arrive. He tells Tim to go inside to see if he missed any hostages.

Cut to Tim and Babs patrolling on the rooftops, with Babs telling Tim that Dick went home (taking her costume with him.) Babs points out something strange on the street. Tim's response?
"Oh, you mean that person dressed up as a lion? That's Nightwing, dressed up as a lion."

They run off to bust up that break-in, but it's really not plot-centric so I'll skim over the details. Tim decides to call it a night, and on the way he spots a guy dressed up as a flower. Standing outside of a flower shop. Of course he thinks it's Dick, but...

Chlorophil gladly hands over his ID to Tim, explaining that he wanted to do something to impress a girl. Tim admits that it's a dumb idea, but that he's heard a lot dumber.

Back at the batcave, the bat family relaxes with a nice snack. Tim is in a markedly better mood because he feels like he did some good, but Dick points out that being a guidance counselor doesn't have the same rush as, say, taking down a gun-weilding maniac. Tim decides that it's nice to have a mix, and leaves with a sweet "Oh and Dick? Babs? Thanks for...for caring."
Aww :3

Oh, Alfred :D Though I gotta say, that was a pretty impressive makeup job.

Which view do you propose he's admiring? Because with the way his mask is drawn, he could be staring at either Dick's ass or Babs's boobs... oh, wait, you mean the first panel of the page, not the first panel that all three of them are in (he's kind of smirking in both). Yeah, he's definitely enjoying the view; that doesn't eliminate the possibility that he knew right away, too, though.
Third: DIck's mullet looks better than usual there, less like a mullet and more like normal long hair that happens to have funny-looking bangs.

Date: 2010-05-12 01:43 am (UTC)It's nice that Bruce doesn't consider Dick's and Babs' plans as pointless, and just leaves them to do what it takes to help out Tim. And even enlists Alfred's help, who was awesome, as always. No Batdickery here, no siree!

Date: 2010-05-12 05:47 am (UTC)Tim's being a tad over-snarky over Dick's choice of costume, though. Why SHOULDN'T there be a villain dressed as a lion in Gotham? There are lion-themed villains elsewhere in the DCU.

Date: 2010-05-12 08:17 am (UTC)But it so disconcerting to see somebody called Tim Drake go into any kind of situation, let alone a hostage one, without a Plan, and Plan B, a Plan B1, B2 and C and six kinds of alternate backup. This amalgamation of Jason and Tim thing just doesn't work for me.
