By me

On a similar subject, Newsarama are currently running a poll asking who people would like the next Batgirl to be. Currently Cass is in the lead with nearly 400 votes more votes than Barbara, with Steph only a few dozen votes behind her.
Which I think is kind of neat. ^^

Date: 2009-04-15 04:34 am (UTC)Think of how many people watched BtAS and it's spin-offs vs how many read Cass's series. Look at who's getting books or backup strips, this June: Harley, Jaime, Renee... Yep, Cass isn't as well known as Renee Montoya, let alone Barbara Gordon. It's the characters that have either crossed over into other media, like Jaime, or originated there, like Harley and Renee, that are getting pushed.
They really needed to have Cass as Batgirl in that Batman cartoon with the different designs and voices from a few years back. Even though it wasn't as good as the earlier one, it would have gotten Cass some much needed exposure. As it is, when you say "Batgirl", most think of this cute redhead.

Date: 2009-04-14 09:21 pm (UTC)Of course they'll probably have a Rockyesque 'getting-into-shape' montage for that.
Or ignore previous canon, that works too.

Date: 2009-04-15 02:45 am (UTC)I'm not conservative when it comes to comics - I like change. Change is fine - it keeps things shaken up and interesting. But these days it seems like there's this vast appetite for novelty that demands constant, unrelenting change - if it doesn't elicit a gasp of shock every few pages, it doesn't hold water. For crying out loud, the original Batgirl held onto her title for, what - almost thirty years? And Cass has been around for, what, about ten, fifteen? She still has years of growing and changing left in her - she shouldn't be tossed aside for the new flavor of the month. It's maddening.
