In the previous Legion entry I posted I got into a debate with another poster over whether or not Brainiac 5 remembers the pre-Crisis DCU. This revelation occurred in a two page exchange of dialogue that clears up the origin of Bart Allen, XS, and the other Legions.

After hearing her true origin, XS asks the adult Brainiac why he is the only one who can remember these events. The second Brainy theorizes that the capacity of an adult Brainiac 5's brain may be enough to resist changes in reality, thus the original Brainiac 5 is the same person from pre-Crisis continuity only with a new body.

All of his current plans as of late were drawn up from his calculations of future events before the first Crisis occurred.

Also, it is explained that both Legion reboots existed before the Crisis and all current continuity crossovers were trippy time traveling events that took them to a future that only existed in the past.

In addition to what everyone else is saying - the 'only Brainiac 5 remembers' refers to exactly one, very specific, incident - the meeting of the 3 Legions, and Jenni and Bart changing universes.

I can post the pages, but it's clear that he's thinking of the Supergirl as the Supergirl he knows. The funny thing is he doesn't figure that the reason she thinks he's familiar is that she's comparing him to Earth Prime's Brainiac 5.

It hasn't happened to Supergirl, and hasn't been shown on the page - but it has happened in his past (you know, time travel), and it involved/will involve the Supergirl of New Earth, and it's a story that's going to be told in the next Supergirl annual.

It's entirely within the CURRENT multiverse. It is, in fact, unlike Supergirl's prior time travels, within the same UNIVERSE.

He's remembering stuff from stories that have not been told, yet. (And will be told, as the caption ON THAT VERY SCENE told us, in Supergirl Annual 2.)

He's not remembering meeting a Kara Zor-El who hasn't existed in years, he's remembering meeting the same Kara he's talking to.

Remembering meeting this Supergirl in his past is incompatible with remembering the pre-Crisis universe, since the two Supergirls are completely different characters, with different personalities, different appearances, and different (and completely unrelated) histories.

Nothing in the pre-Crisis Supergirl's history would allow for the conversation he's having with her, right that minute.
