Greetings True Believers!

As my final post for Death Week, I thought I'd re-post one of the finest comic book deaths of all time.

These panels shake me every time I read them. This is a story of bravery, redemption, dignity, unrequited love and destiny. It is the final battle of Skurge, The Executioner.

Look to his tale, look to Skurge.

I've written a comic. Well, three issues of one, and I'm rehashing the story right now with the hopes of trying to sell it as a mini-series first that could potentially become an on-going. I've had a handful of people read it, and I'm told it's pretty good.

The problem is this: I can't draw to save my life. I've been trying to find an artist, but I've had no luck yet. I can't afford to commission an artist at this point. My ideal goal would be to find another up and comer to form a partnership with and sell to a smaller press publication, but as I said before, I've not had any luck.

So, I decided to just come here and ask you guys if you had any pointers or could point me in the right direction.

For legality's sake (And because The A Team was awesome), a Mr. T comic scan.

For Death Week, here's the death of Glorianna O'Breen, one of Matt Murdock's (many) dead girlfriends. To add insult to injury, this isn't a very well-known DAREDEVIL story, since it was during the "Jack Batlin" era fans prefer to ignore *and* was written by Alan Smithee. At least that is the name give to the writer. A few DD fan-pages explain the story.

I've mentioned already how much I love not only The Night Machine, but also the text heralding his introduction to S.H.I.E.L.D. #1. In #2, we found out that The Night Machine was more than you might first think.

He used to come with the setting of the sun.

The dark man

The NIGHT MACHINE

My father...

As long as i have known him, the Night Machine - my father - has always evoked a strong reaction in me.

He stirs something.

New ideas in the dead of night when dreaming is natural...
And tomorrow is nothing but the promise of possibility.

His return signals something...
A necessary change. A renaissance.
I am becoming something more

Before I get to the actual post, there's a photo I've gotta share with you guys. At a strip mall in PA, at a store I won't name (it rhymes with Shmot Shmopic), while I was totally not listening to Lady Gaga on the store's awesome headphones, I saw a guy there who happened to have the Best Tattoos Ever.

Behold this blurry iPhone photo of the aforementioned Best Tattoos Ever )

Now, onto the actual post!

So hey, remember how I was all like, "How come we never found out what happened between Two-Face and Renee Montoya after they first met, and he let her keep the coin? Even in the novelization, we never heard about what really happened next! What the hell?"

So it figures that, literally two days after I posted my final part of the big NO MAN'S LAND posts, I track down a copy of BATMAN CHRONICLES #14, which features Greg Rucka's very first work for DC Comics, an illustrated prose piece that focuses on Renee Montoya and her brother Benny. And while it was published six months (two issues) before "Two Down," the story where she and Harvey met, it was actually a sequel in prose form!

If you're like me, this is huge! And if you're not... well, I hope you at least find it mildly interesting.

I'm guessing pretty much no one's read this story, or else somebody probably would have brought it up already. Greg Rucka's first work for DC is a obscure oddity, almost entirely forgotten and never reprinted, that serves as the lost first (or second) chapter in Greg Rucka's decade-long saga of Renee Montoya.

And while Harvey Dent isn't actually in this story, his presence is definitely felt throughout.

Benny found me on the stoop of our parents' bodega, flipping the coin and watching the empty street... )
