In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like. Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.
The UK is playing host to a NATO conference this week, which meens we get POTUS 45 visiting London, along with the other world leadere, ostensibly to celebrate 70 years of existence, but also to deal with some existential crisis within the group (What they all made of Trump's claim that they'd be in the middle of World War Three if he weren't President would be... instructive I feel)
Now, normally, in the midst of General Election campaign, you would see the leaders of each party eager to suck up to the most powerful leader in the free world, as their endorsement is a good thing. But these are not normal times, since not only have the leaders of the Labour and LibDem parties made it clear they actively dislike Trump, we're even seeing BoJo back away from being seen to be too chummy. And Trump has now announced (after many endorsements of BoJo, said that he could "work with any PM".... Well, this isn't awkward AT ALL!
Yahoo Groups is deleting it's entire content on December 14th, so if you have anything left there you might want to archive it NOW.
Sad and shocking news from the high octane world of grammar,
The Apostrophe Protection Society has shut down, stating that "laziness and ignorance have won".
A release date for Doctor Who Season 12 has been confirmed
via a new trailer! So when they said last New Years Day that "Doctor Who will return in 2020" they meant
as soon as possible in 2020, as the first part of two-parter "Spyfall" will again be New Years Day.
I finally caught up on more "Legends of Tomorrow" and keep forgetting how completely, amazingly, wonderfully deranged this show is. The end of Season 3 is an absolute delight!
At the other end of the scale the BBC's period version of "The War of the Worlds" came to an end after three stultifying episodes of basically ignoring the original text, making every character more tedious than the last, and having people go on out loud about the plot elements that HG Wells trusted his audience enough to leave as metaphor. Such a shame, as I'd been looking forward to this.
"The Mandalorian" continues to impress, balancing sci-fi aesthetics, with spaghetti Western themes, and the worlds most ridiculously cute sidekick.
And to close with some amazing news, at the age of 82, Billy Dee Williams has come out as genderfluid
in an interview with Esquire; “And you see I say ‘himself’ and ‘herself,’ because I also see myself as feminine as well as masculine. I’m a very soft person. I’m not afraid to show that side of myself.”
Billy Dee Williams, we salute you! (Now if only the Star Wars franchise would do something concrete about reflecting some LGBTQA+ representation. I know Donald Glover said he played young Lando in the belief he was pansexual, but he didn't even TRY to flirt with Han, or Chewie for that matter, so might as well not have been.)
