the ring takes care of that. It just felt it big time for a second, and the rings keeps it at that point.

IMHO that's not really rage then. Rage requires direction, focus, drive and, again IMHO, sentience, since it's the result of a thought process, not just wild animal instinct.

An Earth cat just seems to be a really poor choice of a character to use in this case. They're great animals, don't get me wrong, but they're not capable of abstract thinking.

Still and all, as I still think the Rainbow of Fruit flavours Lanterns wasn't terribly well thought out, I shouldn't be surprised by something like this.
