This is from Gotham Adventures #28,

The Riddler has staged a series of clues in an effort to lead Batman around by the nose after kidnapping a famous musician. But it's been Nightwing's knowledge of music that has been pivotal, as the musician has been hiding clues of his own in the musical cue the Riddler has been using.


Dick deduces the location of the hideout and then, it'sa boys night out for the Batclan!



A fight ensues (of course) as the Batboys work out their usual anger issues.. until...



You can all but hear the usual film cue of the background music making that horrible scratchy noice as the needle slide across the record...



A great moment! :)

Fear is a vastly under-rated motivator, and as you can see, that's part of why the Joker keeps his gang members, they're too shit scared to leave!

That would actually be a VERY effective recruiting method for the Joker, he simply goes up to likely candidates in the underground dives and tell them he's delighted they have decided to accept his offer to work for him and he'll expect them to report bright and early the next morning... Who'd dare refuse him? :)

And, apropos of nothing, from the same issue...



Dick wonders whether he should remind Bruce to put on the rest of his costume, or just enjoy the fun!

It's actually a great story for that, since Dick is the one to spot the clues in the music, and is a little surprised at how encouraging Bruce is being to his deductive efforts.

I love the whole thing just grinds to a halt with that one slip of the tongue. It's like 'wait... what? OK, panicking now; we give up.' Arguably, it's one of Joker's best moments, despite the fact that he's not even there.

Why does the Riddler look just like Grant Morrison?

They were wanting to make him look more like Malcolm McDowell in Clockork Orange, but since he never made a proper appearance in this look (He has brief cameo apppearances a couple of times, like in Knight Time) it was hard to see why they went to the bother.

It's his revamped look from the Superman Batman Adventures revamp. Not my favourite redesign, but not my least favourite either.
