More stuff for New Female Character week, coming from the pages of Invincible. She's a mainstay of the new Guardians of the Globe, though she's actually not in the Guarding the Globe series.

Her power-set is quite fun and I like her. There's also a good ongoing story with her relationship with Robot and his battle to stop her from de-aging.

I need to re-read my Invincible books.

Umm wow.. I actually feel sorry for the girl. Pretty fucked up..yet is a prime example of why I always hated the character of overbearing parents in almost any media.

Where do you get "overbearing parents" out of this, we never see them.

I think 'overbearing parents' refers to the boy's grandmother forbidding their relationship, and then cursing Monster Girl when her commands are ignored.

There was a slightly nicer Monster Girl in the DCU. I'd like to bring her back one day.

Wasn't she the one from that Ultimates rip off from Batman/Superman?

I actually kind of liked that team, shame they were just made up by Mxy.

That's Monster yeah but....

Their was a Monster Girl in DC's short lived but awesome series Young Heroes in Love. I have an issue or two might post it when I get a chance.

Oh hell yeah! YHIL is one of my favorite series that was ended before it's time.

Although this was back when "before it's time" meant 30 issues, not 5 or 6...

*slaps forehead*

Oh yeah! I read that series on the now defunct HTML comics. Great stuff, wish it would be collected in a trade.

Nope. As I recall she was in that Wonder Woman arc where all the male heroes get turned into animals by Circe and Diana has to lead an army of women. She was this sweet girl (an adopted alien, I think) who could turn into an ugly beast, and she helped Empress to defeat Giganta.

I'd have scans, but I don't have scans.

Yeah, I know who it is.

But reading YHIL, I have to disagree with the sweet girl thing, IIRC she was kind of a hard ass.

Seriously though, grandmother hexed her for sleeping with her boy but I'm betting the grandson didn't get any punishment.

Yeah kind of an unfair double standard on the grandmother's part. Maybe her child wouldn't approve of her cursing her grandson.

But, really, if all the grandmother wanted was to break them up, instead of threatening the spoiled American, wouldn't it make more sense to threaten the grandson? I'd imagine telling him that his cock would turn green and shrivel like a cucumber left on top of a radiator if he stuck it into anyone she didn't approve of would do the trick -- he'd know she had the ability to back it up, even if she didn't intend to.

Ah, but then she wouldn't get to see her great-grandkids.

Scary witchy grandmothers aren't really known for meting exactly fair justice.

I wasn't thinking in terms of fairness, more in terms of effectiveness. I mean, they broke up eventually, but she'd have had her way a lot sooner and without actually expending a curse if she'd chosen the other target.

Also not sure how bright using his sprog as bargaining chips would be...

"Grandmama, I am putting my foot down! You will not see the children again!"
"Hans, my boy, do you like having a nose that does not look like the hind end of a dachshund?"
"...so you will be by for dinner on Sunday?"

;)

2nd page: Disapproving Horse is disapproving.

Interesting character. Monster Girl, not Disapproving Horse.

And somewhere in Europe this poor Romani youth is still wondering why none of his girlfriends ever call or write. And always move out of town just when they're starting to go steady.

In other news, the superhero population in Europe has increased by 21.7 per cent during the last three years. Scientists have come up with no explanation for this statistical improbability.

Joy, a female superhero whose origin is that she's being punished for having sex. This was written by a guy, right?

Madame Cockblock better hope her grandson doesn't find out what she was up to when she gets too old and infirm to take care of herself...

It's an interesting curse...It just barely avoids qualifying as 'cursed with awesome' based on the speed the de-aging seems to be happening...

I like the element where using her powers is what fucks her over and she could stop doing it but she doesn't out of concern for the people around her, it really makes me like the character.

The narrative seems to be kind of an asshole to Monster-Girl about a bunch of things for no real reason I can figure out, although to be honest that just makes me sympathize with the character more.

Maybe that was the point? It doesn't read like that was the point, but that could've been the idea I guess.
