More stuff for New Female Character week, coming from the pages of Invincible. She's a mainstay of the new Guardians of the Globe, though she's actually not in the Guarding the Globe series.
Her power-set is quite fun and I like her. There's also a good ongoing story with her relationship with Robot and his battle to stop her from de-aging.
Umm wow.. I actually feel sorry for the girl. Pretty fucked up..yet is a prime example of why I always hated the character of overbearing parents in almost any media.
I think 'overbearing parents' refers to the boy's grandmother forbidding their relationship, and then cursing Monster Girl when her commands are ignored.
Nope. As I recall she was in that Wonder Woman arc where all the male heroes get turned into animals by Circe and Diana has to lead an army of women. She was this sweet girl (an adopted alien, I think) who could turn into an ugly beast, and she helped Empress to defeat Giganta.
But, really, if all the grandmother wanted was to break them up, instead of threatening the spoiled American, wouldn't it make more sense to threaten the grandson? I'd imagine telling him that his cock would turn green and shrivel like a cucumber left on top of a radiator if he stuck it into anyone she didn't approve of would do the trick -- he'd know she had the ability to back it up, even if she didn't intend to.
I wasn't thinking in terms of fairness, more in terms of effectiveness. I mean, they broke up eventually, but she'd have had her way a lot sooner and without actually expending a curse if she'd chosen the other target.
Also not sure how bright using his sprog as bargaining chips would be...
"Grandmama, I am putting my foot down! You will not see the children again!" "Hans, my boy, do you like having a nose that does not look like the hind end of a dachshund?" "...so you will be by for dinner on Sunday?"
And somewhere in Europe this poor Romani youth is still wondering why none of his girlfriends ever call or write. And always move out of town just when they're starting to go steady.
In other news, the superhero population in Europe has increased by 21.7 per cent during the last three years. Scientists have come up with no explanation for this statistical improbability.
I like the element where using her powers is what fucks her over and she could stop doing it but she doesn't out of concern for the people around her, it really makes me like the character.
The narrative seems to be kind of an asshole to Monster-Girl about a bunch of things for no real reason I can figure out, although to be honest that just makes me sympathize with the character more.
