CosmicBookNews has the preview of the conclusion to the Thanos Imperative, and possibly a close to this chapter in the Marvel Cosmic stories.

Oh yeah, Spoilers ahoy.

Wish granted.

Yes, give Thanos what he wants. That always works out well.

It's official. Artists are getting way too lazy.

IKR? That splash page is all tentacles, teeth and eyes. Kevin O'Neill could draw that stuff after becoming a quadruple amputee. Why not throw in a bat-wing or an array of fish-spines or some gigantic mass of many-fingered arms, for crissakes.

Hey, he practiced YEARS to be able to make a speech like that while his face and body remained....perfectly...still...

Ugh, I hated those 4 identical panels myself....

This entire miniseries has been full of massive space battles, huge crowd scenes, giant explosions, and enormous brawls.

Having three still panels in a row after five issues of working his ass off doesn't suddenly make him lazy. It makes you jaded.

Is it just me? Is it that I'm so effing jaded that pages like this make me yawn, "Seen it"? Or did the comics community just absorb the trappings of Otherworldly Horror from a few Cliff's Notes on Lovecraft and drunken late-night viewings of Clive Barker films?

Basically. I don't think there's anything particularly new, in regards to Eldritch Horrors, in Thanos Imperative, it's mostly just seeing how it works with/against the Marvel Cosmic stuff. I mean, I'm not big Cthulu buff and I recognize most of this from The Atrocity Archives, but I still find it fun seeing how the Guardians, Nova, et al respond to it.

I've personally felt much the same for years, though I did get to enjoy Gaiman's "A Study in Emerald" and Morrison's "Zenith" arc beforehand.

hey, marvel? I have to pay 3.99 for a comic, could you at least have your artist draw each individual panel?

Oh, come on. That's a stylistic choice that's been used in multiple comics. Invincible does it so much that it made a meta-joke about it early in its run.

The reason for the similar panels is to showcase the materialization of the sword, which works well in this context.

...or it would if the repeated panels weren't anatomically bizarre.

In what way bizarre (particularly)?

There are some strange things going on with his face, mostly with his chin extending way down for some reason, and the position of his hand seems to require the hilt of the sword not line up with the blade.

His whole face looks really flabby in general.

Not seeing a problem with the chin, or the face in general to be honest, it doesn't look flabby so much as showing the lines that tend to appear on faces when the mouth opens wide like that.

Also not seeing a problem with the sword either, it starts to materialise beyond his hand, and he reaches out and grabs it as it forms.

My issue with the hand is if you take the thickness of it into account, what it's holding isn't lined up with the blade we see.

The thing here is that any little flaw will be magnified when the image is repeated like this, since the eye is now dwelling on it. It also seems oddly forced, and given how much dialogue he gives during those four panels, it seems really odd that his face would be identical in them all.

Well, yes, but that's sort of the face I'd expect of someone like him in this situation. He is, after all, achieving the ultimate happy for the big boss avatar of the Cthulhuverse....

You know, being reminded of this storyline going on, I suddenly realize that the South Park Multi Part episode this season (with super heroes vs. Cthulhu) is kind of a send up of this.

Question though; Does this make Cartman Thanos?

...Yep. Kill the Avatar of Death in the universe where you've gotten rid of Death.

Either he won't die, or he will and Death is reintroduced.

I am glad that Shuma Gorath is at least getting name checked in this story, if not actually appearing in the final issue.
