Since it's Awesome New Females week I bring you a bit of Carmilla Black the Stinging Scorpion from her appearances in Captain Universe/X-23 and Avengers the Initiative.

Captain Universe/X-23 (2 pages)
Avengers The Initiative #24 (3 pages)
Carmilla received her codename due to having the ability to absorb and release toxins via her left arm (fingertips I believe). She's also a well trained martial artist.
Raised by adoptive parents who were later killed she found out her mother was the leader of A.I.M Monica Rappacini. Carminlla later discovers she's a test tube baby and her genetic father is possibly Bruce Banner.
After this she's essentially joined S.H.I.E.L.D and often worked for Nick Fury and acts as a spy generally in the aim, hah, of confronting her "mother".
During the Captain Universe miniseries the Uni-Force (the energy that empowers others into Captain Universe has had some sort of power problem and is running person to person trying to find a way to fix itself. First it bonds to Bruce Banner then Daredevil in the first two issues and in the third to X-23.
Both S.H.I.E.L.D and A.I.M want to learn more about it and capture it if possible. The Uni-Force bonds to X-23 to use her hunting skills to track down A.I.M's servers and destroy what info it's collected about it.
Scorpion follows X-23 trying to be buds with her so as to get whatever info A.I.M has on the Uni-Force to give to S.H.I.E.L.D and the two bust through A.I.M's headquarters which had only one person left in it.

X-23 of course sees the Uni-Force as a kindred being and how she was created to be controlled and be a weapon against her wishes. Scorpion takes a look at X-23 and just lifts the scientist up and the two walk out of the burning headquarters.

The issue served to show us a bit more of Scorpion's personality, she might work for S.H.I.E.L.D but won't follow orders if she considers them wrong.
She also played a bit into Avengers the Initiative being the co-leader of a HYDRA cell alongside the recently "converted" Hardball (he sort of joined because he was pressured into deals with HYDRA and when he wanted to leave the dealing with them for goof they threatened to reveal this to the other heroes)
Hardballs ex Komodo doesn't really take well to Hardball or Scorpion...

Yeah, she "joined" the Hydra cell presumably as per Nick Fury's orders to take it down but get whatever data she could out of it first.

Awww. She's also a good judge of character as we see with Hardball.
Hope you liked. She's shown up a few places aside from this. She was introduced in 2005's Amazing Fantasy issues 7-12, showed up a bit in Incredible Hulk 83-86 and recently showed up in Amazing Spider-man 626.
