Batwoman #0

While I was on vacation in lovely Tampa, Florida, I managed to get my grubby little hands on Batwoman #0.





As seen in the preview image posted in November, male!Bats (haha) is tailing female!Bats in order to discern her identity.

Top of the page is Batman; bottom is Bruce Wayne. blah blah blah get to the friggin pictures



He watches her handle her own in a fight, then later follows her to a club (lawl). I really like the panel of her dancing; she seems like (at least to me) she's really enjoying herself.



He later gets the brilliant idea of pretending to be a robber and attacking Kate in broad daylight, and, well . . .



I've been a lurker for some time, but this is my first time posting. I did read the rules, but please don't hesitate to let me know if I did something wrong--which I'm sure most of you would do.

That is one freaking intense face in the last page. Weirdly contorted fight move, though - she looks like she's hurling herself in the opposite direction to knee him in the face. o_O

I think that's like her special kick or something. It's an interesting move, definitely, with the whole one leg bent under the extended leg.

The page after that one has more INTENSE face. Like, she looks like she wants to KILL him for even attempting to attack her.

The panel is actually inverted; she kicked him so hard he's doing a backflip.

The top panel is upside-down so that a spiral effect is created; Kate and Batwoman are both delivering the same move to Bruce-in-disguise and big-bald-guy.

This artwork is so freaking nice. I seriously can't get over it.

I love it. And the colors are just beautiful. I love the way some colorists handle the red of her hair and costume.

Yeah, it's some seriously gorgeous artwork. Though I do wish they'd give Batwoman a bit of colour in her cheeks.

The white face with red lipstick almost makes her look like The Joker in a bat mask.

I really really like how J.H.Williams composes its sets. Almost like you are watching a puzzle map doing itself you know. And of course the use or red is outstanding.

I like the new 'Batwoman' logo. (If it IS new, but I can't recall having seen it before.) It's kinda weird and art-deco-ish. I approve.

She had the same logo in Batwoman: Elegy, I know that much. It looks a little similar (IMO) to Terry McGinnis' bat-logo, but I think it looks better on her costume since hers has more red in it than Terry's.

My one regret from this issue is knowing that when they start the ongoing, Williams and Reeder will be trading off the art duties, rather than sharing them like they did in this. (At least if the initial announcement was correct and plans haven't changed since.) Williams doing 'Batwoman' scenes and Reeder doing 'Kate' scenes was pretty nice.

I agree. I'm sure Reeder will do an awesome job on the Batwoman bits, but I thought the contrasting art in this issue had a great effect.

So is Batwoman going to be a recruit for Batman Inc.?

Yeah, I think so. In issue four or five he's supposed to go back with Gotham and team up with her for a while.

Honestly, the second to the last panel is confusing and scaring me. Unless someone actually took a still shot of someone doing that to effectively strike another person, I don't believe that's a reliable or precise move.

I think someone said it was more of a design thing--she's really doing the same move that she's doing as Batwoman in the bottom panel.

Considering Batwoman's paleness and red hair and Kate Kane's likewise, considering her history (in the military), her father's access and her stepmom's money, considering Bruce must know her cousin is the heroine known as Flamebird, and that (as we will probably find out) the Kathy Kane he used to date is this one's relative I'm having a hard figuring out why it's taken Bruce more than week to nail down Kate Kane=Batwoman. Especially since she's been around awhile (so he would have made inquiries earlier) and he's supposed to be the "World's Greatest Detective".
I guess I always assumed that Bruce knew who she was from the start and that's one of the reason he left her alone in "his city".

He mentions some of what you've mentioned in your comment, in the comic book. But yeah, I was surprised that it took him that long, too. I, too, thought he knew who she was from the get-go. Maybe they wrote it that way for people who are completely brand-new to the series or something. Iono. *shrug*

You can't see all of it here, but I love the panel of Bruce in the gay club, drinking a martini and being hit on by (and ignoring) the bartender. ♥

Can hardly stand Batman, but I really like Batwoman.

I've always been a bit confused about why she chose the long sexy but impractical hair to fight crime in, and the cool but sensible bob to live it up in her personal life. Seems backwards!

I love the smile at the bottom of the first page. I'm impressed by how satisfied yet genuinely frightening she looks.

I kind of like how Kate could easily be mistaken for a villain based on her look - a bit like Bruce and Cass in that regard.
