Yup, I do cat rescue, and thumb!cats are becoming much more common. My mom's cat (a vicious rescued moggie named Baby) is a thumb!cat, as is one of the three cats in my small feral colony (named Brucie because he likes to cast his silhouette in the shadows from the garden shed like Batman -- for the record, the other two are Owlcat and Fluffernutter). Baby was pregnant when she was left in a box at the small rural church which my mom serves, and she (the cat) had four kittens, all of whom were thumb!cats. All of mom's offspring had thumbs also; in my own case, the phrase "all thumbs" probably applies. The parsonage cats -- the sexton actually lives there, while mom has an apartment in senior housing -- are all thumb!cats except for one.
I'm...pretty sure that an expanding wave of non-superspeedy mice can't actually search a building faster than any one being. Especially when that one being is a dog with Kryptonian superspeed raised to the ninth power, whatever that means.
Thanks for the post! I almost missed it because I've been so busy. I love how the familiars acted just like the LSH being so rude to the animals trying out. Too bad Googal didn't tell them to @#$% off after saving them (although I agree with silicondream that Krypto should have been able to search faster or even use x-ray vision, assuming he has those powers as a descendent of a clone. Course Googal would kick ass even more if he duplicated himself into a million members of the Mouse Guard.
