Lois Lane will played by Amy Adams. I really started to think like many of you guys and wanted Rashida Jones to play Lois. I have liked Amy Adams in a couple of her films. Never seen a Zack Snyder film, though.

I'm honestly surprised nobody's posted this already.

I like Amy Adams in the things I've seen her in, but I've honestly never considered her as a Lois. Possibly due to the red hair (now, Lana Lang on the other hand...), possibly due to the fact that almost everything I've seen her in has involved her being, for want of a better word, 'perky', and perky isn't really a quality I attribute much to Lois Lane (she's always seemed a bit too cynical for 'perky').

But still, I do like her so I can't say I'm particularly unhappy. Nothing to give me cause for alarm; I'm willing to be convinced.

(I haven't really seen anything to give me cause for concern except for Zack Snyder himself; not really his biggest fan, but I'm willing to be convinced.)

She's not a natural redhead anyway. She dyes it that color. http://www.imnotobsessed.com/2008/05/09/amy-adams-red-hair-changed-my-life/

That could work, I guess. If nothing else, she already held her own against Crackhead Batman, and that's certainly saying something.
My shallow side laments the fact that she is going to have to dye her beautiful hair though.

What is this about it being a problem that she has red hair? Noel Neill, Patricia Marand, and Leslie Ann Warren all played Lois Lane and they were all redheads. Also, Lois was drawn with auburn hair for years after the Byrne reboot.

Also, let me just say that I think she's an excellent actress, so I think this bodes well for the film.

The amount of fanboys complaining about her being much older than Cavill and a redhead is mindblowing. If they can make a dude fly, I'm fairly sure they can make her look younger and brunette.

She's a talented actress with range. That's all that should matter.

If I remember my Superman lore correctly, isn't Lois supposed to be older than Clark anyway?

As for fanboys complaining, let's face it, some fanboys will complain about anything.

No. Lois was younger than Clark in almost every portrayal of the characters where it is possible to know or make a reasonable guess about their respective ages. Many people are under the impression that Lois is supposed to be older than Clark because Margot Kidder was older (and still is, I guess) than Christopher Reeve, but her Lois was still supposed to be younger than his Clark. Although it didn't make it into the theatrical release, in the scene wherein a teenaged Clark is running alongside a train, a young girl on board the train sees him, but isn't believed by her parents; that girl was Lois.

But yes, there will always be those who disagree with any given decision that receives any significant public attention. As the number of people who have an opinion about a decision rises, the probability that there will be dissent approaches one.

I got the impression people assumed she was older because she was already an established star reporter before Clark even arrived in Metropolis, that's the sort of reputation that takes a little time to work on, and since Clark (originally) came the Planet right out of college, she had to have been working there beforehand.

(Another reason I like the Byrne reboot, as it affirmed that Clark had a reputation as a writer before The Daily Planet, but not as a reporter of Lois' class.)

From: [personal profile] richardak
That's true for the more recent portrayals; in a lot of the older portrayals, she wasn't yet a star reporter when Clark showed up. She was still trying to make her reputation. In the portrayals where she is a star reporter when Clark shows up, it's generally intended to show just what a great reporter she is: she has achieved a high level of success at an unusually young age.

Well, she was the Planet's "star reporter" before Clark got there in most, versions I've come across. She is seeking a bigger and better scoop (as any good reporter would) but she was, in effect the ONLY competition Clark had for the pick of the stories.

(More than one commentator has noted how much of a genius at talent spotting Perry White must have been to operate a major, respected, metropolitan daily broadsheet for years with a staff apparently consisting entirely of himself, two reporters and a cub reporter/photographer. :) )

That's why I liked the Dean Trippe concept you posted...showing Lois actually earning that reputation as a literal "Girl Reporter." In my head, that's canon now.

Personally, I'm happy with her age. One of my problems with Superman Returns is that Lois looked like a college student rather than someone who just won a Pulitzer Prize.

Screw that, I like Older!Lois and the thought of her having more seniority in the DP than Clark.

Also it's kind of sexy, especially since Clark has the innocence thing going on.

The existence of Lana Lang? Short memories? People being idiots? :-)

Speaking personally, it's not a problem for me at all; I'm used to seeing Lois as a brunette because that's how she's been depicted in the comics I've had exposure to (plus most of the live-action depictions I've seen), but it's certainly not a dealbreaker from me. Amy Adams has beautiful hair; I'd be happy enough with a redheaded Lois*. And if she absolutely must be a brunette, hey, there's this thing called 'hair dye' now!

* And I'm not just saying this because I have a thing for ladies with red hair. No sir. Not at all.**
** Okay, maybe a little bit.

I always figured Lois Lane to look like Rena Sofer--she played Nathan Petrelli's wife from Heroes; she also played a lawyer in NCIS. I think she's pretty ubiquitous in TV.

I think Amy Adams looks cute. I don't really see Lois Lane as cute and perky. That being said, I don't really see anyone else fitting the bill for "tough lady investigative reporter".

Rena Sofer not only has the look of Lois Lane...she has the VOICE. My one fear of Adams is her voice doesn't sound like Lois in my head.

My name is citygod, and I endorse this message.
Oh, Rena, hell yeah. But there's a couple of other good alternatives: the girl on Smallville is good, and Rachel McAdams was on the short list - she'd make a great Lois.
And good call on the Rena voice.

If by "the girl on Smallville," you're referring to Erica Durance, I could not disagree more. I think she's an execrably bad actress. Sofer or McAdams could have been good though. But like I said, I think Amy Adams may turn out to be a very good choice. I suspect that many of the doubters will be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, Erica Durance isn't much of an actor, but she had the sassy thing down, and a nice chemistry with Welling. (Based on a few years ago - I gave up after Doomsday).
I like Amy Adams a lot, but I think she does light and flirty best. My ideal Lois is a bit flintier (see my icon for my ideas on The One True Lois) but you may be right, she could surprise me. I'm already happier than when I heard about Kate Bosworth.
Didn't Dana Delany do a Lois voice on the cartoon? She'd be fab.

Did you see Adams' performance in The Fighter? I'd say she can do flinty.

Erica Durance? Yeah, I think she deserves a chance to play Lois without all the Whedon-wannabe dialogue. Rachel McAdams? She's never stood out for me, but a lot of people I like seem to think a lot of her, so I can't think of any reason to object. I've always wondered what A.J. Cook (Criminal Minds) would look like as a brunette.
I just think Lois should be an alto, not a soprano. I dunno why.

To be quite honest, she was one of the actresses I thought should play Lois. While I would've loved to see Rashida Jones play her, I'm not quite ready to gear up for the level of race!fail that casting would've brought from the more ignorant sectors of the fandom.

It would have been cool to have a comic-book author playing Lois Lane in the movies.

Funny coincidence: Rashida Jones and Amy Adams both played love interests for Jim in The Office, and they are both going to appear in the next Muppet film. There's no significance to that; it's just kind of funny.
