You can practically sing along to it.

Hah, that's were my mind went to, right before Springtime for Hitler. Still a brilliant piece of flim.
Have to say though, the comments make me fear for humanity.

Nope, "don't read the comments" pretty much an everywhere rule, I'm afraid. Comms are usually exceptions, though.

Yeah... Yeah I know. I remember getting really depressed when I read the comments on the Batwoman DC Facebook page, and comments about the hurricane and Chaz.... That's why I watch What Would You Do. Makes me think there is still hope for humanity

Went to my brother's law school graduation in Seattle (held at a baseball stadium). The school was founded and predominantly administered by Catholics. The senior admin had everyone "reach their hands out to grant a blessing over the graduates."

Bleachers full of people all raising their hands straight out...

My Jewish mother and I were thoroughly skeeved.

heh sorry i know i shouldn't giggle, but as a long standing catholic (despite issue) that is a standard for a group/comunal blessing. i do see though to an outsider that might be... awkward.

(out of curiosity do jewish people lay hands for blessing?)

Ethnically Jewish, not religious. Not even a little :P

But to my knowledge, it's something that was referred to in the Old Testament traditions, but hasn't continued through to the modern Orthodoxy. Certain ceremonies have hands laid over one's eyes and motions made with hands (you'd see women do this at Seder dinners for lighting Shabbat candles), but nothing like the Christian tradition, granting blessings by laying hands.

Then again, putting a hand upon the head is such an old practice, many groups and institutions have carried this forward beyond a religious context.

Also Catholic, and I've never seen that method used for a blessing. Maybe it's recognised as being a little unfortunate where I've been.

It's generally used when a congregation is called to bless a specific person or group who is presented before them at the altar. Most common during easter when catechumens(sp)/candidates are recieving the rights of initiation.....

Wow.... I've never done that before

In the congregations I've been a part of, the priest will raise their hand over the person (but not in a Nazi style salute, more holding their hand over them) and ask us to join him in blessing them. No Nuremberg recreations for us thankfully!

As a Catholic that strikes me as an odd request. In most cases where a blessing is asked for in my experience, people would be asked to simply bow their heads and as for God's blessing, or if asked to raised their hands, would lift both hand palms upwards in beseechment. I've never seen a single hand being raised in a salute like that.

We raise one hand at mine. Two if they chose, but is not in a salute fashion.... I guess if I was gonna be crude... Its "aiming" your prayers at them (i sometimes picture light beams coming out of my hand-s).... Yeah yeah... I know...

In my PUBLIC High school in San Diego they would make us do that before singing the school's anthem, also every time we said the pledge of allegiance.

It seemed wrong to me so I just put my right hand over my heart and recited the stuff, I got into a lot of trouble but doing that hand salute always creeps me out too.
